99¢ Only Stores^® proudly announces 99 year old Mr. Robert Rice will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the grand opening of its first store located in Fremont, California, on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 8am. As master of ceremonies Mr. Rice’s official duties will consist of cutting the grand opening ribbon and officially proclaiming the new store open to the public.

Mr. Rice is a California native and graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. He was a science teacher at Berkeley High School for 30 years. Mr. Rice is one of the founders of the Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He also started the Bay Area Science Fair and brought the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium to the Northern California and Western Nevada regions. Founder of the California Science Teachers Association, Mr. Rice also served as president of the National Science Teachers Association. In addition to his contributions to education, Mr. Rice was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and trained pilots to fly through inclement weather. Mr. Rice will be accompanied by his lovely wife of 20 years, Esther Rice.
