In the culmination of its first partnership through its four-month old Crafting
a Better World™ program, A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts, Inc.
(Nasdaq:ACMR) is donating more than $60,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of
America. It is also donating arts and crafts supplies on behalf of its
customers to more than 100 Boys & Girls Clubs chapters in the towns it
serves. A.C. Moore and Boys & Girls Clubs of America share a dedication
to children, education and creativity.
Crafting a Better World™ gives customers a way to give back to
their community by doing what they enjoy most – crafting. Since
September, A.C. Moore stores have hosted more than 90 crafting parties
for local Boys & Girls Clubs. They have also been collecting crafting
supplies and accepting $1 donations from customers at checkout.
"We believe that we’ve struck a chord with our customers by finding this
creative way for them to support those less fortunate in their
community,” says A.C. Moore CEO Rick Lepley. "Nationwide, our customers
donated more than $60,000; the first day, they gave $5,300.”
The company also made giving back the focus of its grand openings in
Apex and Concord, NC, and Willow Grove, PA. Each opening included an
afternoon of crafting for local Club members, and a donation to the
local Clubs.
"This partnership has exceeded our expectations,” says Glori Burrell,
Boys & Girls Clubs of America Director of Corporate Development for the
Northeast region. "A.C. Moore put their entire team behind this program,
working with more than 1,000 of our club members in their stores,
providing us materials for more than 100 centers, and giving us extra
funds to replenish these materials.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America is a national network of 4,300
neighborhood-based Boys & Girls Clubs serving more than 4.5 million
young people annually through membership and community outreach. Known
as "The Positive Place for Kids,” the Boys & Girls Clubs of America
provides guidance-oriented programs on a daily basis for children ages
six to 18, conducted by professional staff. The mission of Boys & Girls
Clubs is to enable all young people, especially those who need it most,
to realize their full potential as productive, caring, responsible
citizens.
