The Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) Eastern Region has honored PECO
President and CEO Denis P. O’Brien with the 2011 Americanism Award.
The ADL bestows the Americanism Award annually on leaders in business,
community affairs, and charitable endeavors who distinguish themselves
and their organizations through their dedication to preserving liberty
and advancing the cause of human rights, dignity, diversity, and equal
opportunity.
"We admire the ADL's distinguished record of advocating for the respect
and inclusion of all people, especially the victims of prejudice,” said
O’Brien. "I am honored to accept this award on behalf of all PECO and
Exelon employees in the region, for whom diversity is a core value and a
daily commitment.”
The partnership between PECO and ADL has included PECO’s sponsorship of
ADL’s fall 2010 Youth Leadership Conference, where more than 300
students from 35 area schools came together for a full day of workshops
and presentations about diversity. In addition, PECO staged "Diversity
Job Shadowing Day” at its Main Office Building for students from their
adopted No Place For Hate® School, Bok Technical High School.
Later this year, Bok, PECO, Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, and ADL
will collaborate on several mural projects exploring No Place For Hate®
topics such as diversity and respect.
PECO and its employees celebrate diversity year-round through community
programs like the PECO Multicultural Series and partnerships with
organizations like ADL, Congreso, Philadelphia Chinatown Development
Corporation, the Urban League and the Urban Affairs Coalition. And, PECO
proudly supports the programs and community-focused efforts of its
employee network groups (ENGs): Asian Americans Committed to Exelon
Success (AACES); Exelon African American Membership Association (EAAMA);
Network of Exelon Women (NEW); Organization of Latino Employees (OLE);
