Michael Baker Jr., Inc., a unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE
Amex:BKR), has been chosen by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation
District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) to prepare final design plans,
specifications and permits for stream bank stabilization projects along
Tinley Creek in the Calumet-Sag Channel Watershed and along Midlothian
Creek and Calumet Union Drainage Ditch in the Little Calumet Watershed.
The work will also provide flood risk reduction along the Calumet Union
Drainage Ditch. The contract value for this project is $1.7 million.
A unique aspect of this project is the utilization of natural channel
design techniques which will be utilized along the projects’ urbanized
channels.
"We are very excited to be working with MWRDGC on this endeavor,” said
Robert Murdock, Baker’s project manager. "Natural channel design and
bio-engineered stabilization techniques are being used more and more
nationwide and provide a sustainable, long-term solution to current
stream erosion and flooding issues experienced by the residents along
the design reaches.”
