Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:BCSI), the technology leader in Application
Delivery Networking, today announced that it has expanded its Blue
Coat® WebPulse™ collaborative cloud-based defense
with the addition of a fifth data center in Australia. The new data
center enhances the speed of dynamic ratings for regional customers
while increasing Web awareness and protection against rapidly evolving
Web-based threats for the more than 62 million worldwide WebPulse users.
The WebPulse service works in conjunction with Blue Coat WebFilter to
provide a critical first line of defense for malicious threats and
categorization of URLs. The Blue Coat WebPulse service utilizes
industry-leading Web intelligence, in-depth threat analysis and advanced
malware detection to identify malware, phishing, and other malicious
content that utilize dynamic link chains across multiple Websites.
Results are immediately available to all 62 million WebPulse users
without requiring software downloads or other recurring update cycles.
Additionally, new or enhanced defenses can be added to the WebPulse
service, immediately protecting all users and providing a scalable
defense architecture that does not require new or incremental hardware
or software deployments by the customer.
With the addition of the new data center in Australia, WebPulse users
automatically benefit from a stronger distributed global network that
now includes five global data centers located in the U.S., Europe and
Asia. The data centers are strategically located around the world to
provide rapid and comprehensive coverage of and ratings for unknown URLs
and Web content in over 50 languages with real-time ratings in 17
languages.
"WebPulse is at the foundation of the hybrid Blue Coat Secure Web
Gateway solution and delivers on-demand security intelligence that
protects users in any location at any time,” said Carrie Oakes, vice
president of product marketing at Blue Coat Systems. "Combining
real-time inputs from users worldwide with cloud-based content analysis
through WebPulse provides users with 24/7 protection from Web-based
threats.”
Blue Coat WebFilter customers are automatically protected by the
WebPulse service. Additionally, Blue Coat ProxyClient™ software
automatically connects to the WebPulse service to provide the latest
intelligence on new Web content and threats to protect remote and mobile
workers. Protection by the WebPulse service is also a built-in feature
of Blue Coat K9™ Web Protection for consumers.
