CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (NYSE: CX), announced today that, in solidarity
with the Haitian people, the company is responding to this humanitarian
emergency by collaborating in relief efforts with the governments of
Mexico and other countries, international institutions, and social
organizations.
Cemex has 115 employees in Haiti, working at three maritime terminals
and a commercial representation office. CEMEX has knowledge that its
employees are safe. A rapid response effort to provide humanitarian aid
to employees, their families, and neighboring communities has been
launched. To this end, the first delivery of basic goods has been
completed, and a second one is underway.
Additionally, CEMEX has established a fund to receive voluntary
contributions from its personnel worldwide. CEMEX will match every
donation received two-for-one, and contribute the total amount to a
relief program. Also, CEMEX is making its heavy machinery in Haiti
available to assist relief teams in their efforts.
With three cement import terminals, two of which are located in the
Port-au-Prince area, and one of them in the northern town of Cape
Haitian, CEMEX is one of the major cement suppliers in Haiti. One of the
terminals remains operating, and with the help of CEMEX in the Dominican
Republic and its other operations in the Americas Region, CEMEX will be
able to maintain supply of cement into Haiti and as such contribute to
satisfying the country’s requirements.
