PHOENIX SHOWCASES `SECURE FROM THE START' PLATFORM AT EMBEDDED WORLD 2005 CONFERENCE; COMPANY'S AWARD WINNING SOFTWARE AND TOOLS ENABLE FASTER, MORE RELIABLE DEPLOYMENT

Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: PTEC) today announced innovations and partnerships that should help manufacturers and system builders create secure digital devices that achieve higher performance while consuming less power. Phoenix's Embedded Core System Software will be available on the AMD Geode(TM) family of processors, starting in April 2005. The combination of Phoenix Core System Software and AMD Geode GX's advanced core delivers superior computing security, performance and reliability for digital devices requiring low-power consumption.
Phoenix made its announcements today at the Embedded World 2005 Show in Nuremberg, Germany, where the company is displaying its new offerings in Stand 11-402.
The company also highlighted the growing momentum for its Embedded Core System Software solutions due to their ability to enable, protect, and recover digital devices. Russian industrial automation and electronics leader Fastwel Company Ltd. has adopted Phoenix Embedded Core System Software for use in its railway transportation and other embedded applications. Fastwel, a contract manufacturing pioneer based in Moscow, worked with Phoenix Trusted Partner Eltan B.V. to meet the demanding needs of its customer for reliability and security in the harsh environment of the Siberian Railroad.
Phoenix has been an innovator of advanced, built-in software technologies for PCs and digital and embedded devices for nearly 25 years. Phoenix's innovative products will be on display in Stand 11-402, including the company's advanced TrustedCore Embedded Core System Software, CoreArchitect visual development environment and innovative Recover Pro recovery software for embedded devices.
"Phoenix TrustedCore Embedded software and tools provide the industry's most secure foundation for building and managing networked embedded devices," said Michael D. Goldgof, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Corporate Marketing and Product Divisions for Phoenix Technologies. "While technology advancements have allowed embedded systems to become more intelligent assets, it has also made these systems increasingly vulnerable to viruses, worms and Web-based attacks from both inside and outside the network perimeter. Our offerings deliver built-in device defense at the firmware level for the full range of X86-based devices, including embedded PCs, industrial controllers, test and measurement devices, and rugged blade servers."
Phoenix Core Systems Software has been nominated in the "Best Tools" category of the Embedded World AWARD 2005 contest. Companies selected as finalists displayed outstanding technical innovation.
A new White Paper, titled "Reliability, Security and Recovery for Today's Embedded Systems," is now available and can be downloaded from the Phoenix web site http://www.phoenix.com/en/About+Phoenix/Thought+Leadership/ default.htm. (Due to its length, this URL may need to be copied/pasted into your Internet browser's address field. Remove the extra space if one exists.) The paper describes the nature of the imminent threats now facing embedded systems, and offers solutions to not only secure those systems from the start, but also recover faulty systems safely and automatically.
