Charles Schwab is honored to announce it will be the lead corporate
sponsor of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) presentation
of The Steins Collect: Matisse, Picasso and the Parisian Avant-Garde. Schwab
will partner with SFMOMA to showcase more than 200 landmark works of
modern art from the collections of author Gertrude Stein and her family
from May 21 - Sept. 6. The exhibition will span the family’s entire
collecting history and will premiere in San Francisco, underscoring the
family’s connections to the Bay Area.
"This exhibition is particularly exciting given that the Bay Area is the
childhood home of the Stein family,” said Walt Bettinger, Schwab
President and CEO. "Schwab is a company with deep roots in the San
Francisco Bay Area. We were founded here and our headquarters are here.
With a history of over 20 years supporting the museum, this sponsorship
of The Steins Collect exhibit is another opportunity to support
the important work of SFMOMA and celebrate the roles we each can play in
fostering art that educates, enlightens, and endures.”
The Steins Collect: Matisse, Picasso and the Parisian Avant-Garde
exhibition
reunites for the first time in a generation works from
the collections of Gertrude Stein, her brothers Leo and Michael Stein,
and Michael’s wife, Sarah Stein. It includes pieces by some of the most
important artists from the early decades of the 20th century
including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Paul Cézanne. The exhibition
offers a personal view into the family that made a lasting impact on art
by including a collection of their photographs, family albums, film
clips and correspondence.
For more than twenty years, Schwab has championed the work of SFMOMA and
its mission to expand the range of cultural experiences it offers, as
well as to make art meaningful and accessible for the community. Through
exhibitions such as The Steins Collect, Schwab and SFMOMA work
together to play a role in helping make art that educates and enlightens
available through the city’s cultural resources.
The Steins Collect: Matisse, Picasso and the Parisian Avant-Garde
is jointly organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Réunion
des Musées Nationaux, Paris; and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New
York. The exhibition will premiere in San Francisco from May 21 – Sept.
6, before traveling to Paris and New York.
