Harmonic
Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT) and Civolution,
the leading provider of technology and services for identifying,
managing and monetizing media content, today announced the integration
of Civolution technology solutions with Harmonic’s Rhozet™
Carbon Coder™ to deliver multiple-format transcoding with
watermarking and fingerprinting capabilities. The combined solution
allows media organizations, within their existing workflow, to easily
and rapidly watermark and/or fingerprint their content to protect their
assets and monitor use.
"In this fast-paced media environment, content owners have a need for
high-performance, scalable and cost-effective transcoding solutions that
integrate mission-critical identification and monitoring components to
protect their content,” said David Trescot, Vice President of the Rhozet
Business Unit at Harmonic Inc. "We are very pleased to be collaborating
with Civolution on this important development.”
Rhozet Carbon Coder facilitates the transfer of media between all major
formats and a variety of platforms, including acquisition, editing,
playout, archive, and repurposing for the Internet and mobile devices.
Carbon Coder provides a host of additional functions such as standards
conversion, logo insertion, timecode burn-in, and can run as a
stand-alone application or as part of a multi-node, fully-automated
rendering farm.
Available as a series of complementary plug-ins, Civolution has
integrated its NexGuard™ forensic marking solution, from its recent
Thomson STS acquisition, for audio and video content protection. It is
also integrating its watermarking and fingerprinting based services for
broadcast monitoring (Teletrax) and Internet content monetization.
"Content owners and publishers are constantly looking for fast and
reliable ways to control access to their valuable assets while making
them as widely available as possible to generate revenue,” said Andy
Nobbs, Chief Commercial Officer at Civolution. "The combination of
Harmonic’s Carbon Coder and Civolution’s watermarking and fingerprinting
solutions provides unique capabilities to efficiently organize forensic
marking and track, manage and monetize distributed content.”
Using the combined solutions, media owners and distributors will be able
to convert any source content into any format and at the same time embed
a watermark and generate reference fingerprints of their content. Such
content is then traceable throughout its lifecycle. As part of the
NexGuard integration with the Carbon Coder software, the solution will
interface with the NexGuard Manager database to define content
recipients and log individual instances of digital content. This
solution is ready to play a key role in deterring piracy and allows for
forensic analysis to identify the specific content copy at the source of
the leak whenever infringement occurred.
The added protection and media intelligence services provided by
Civolution are optional and will be available as separate modules.
Harmonic’s Rhozet Carbon Coder, Carbon Server and Carbon QC universal
media transcoding solutions will be on display at IBC 2009 in Amsterdam,
September 11-15, in the Rhozet stand #7.J11 and at the main Harmonic
stand #1.C61; Civolution watermarking and fingerprinting solutions
including NexGuard and Teletrax will be featured in Hall 5, stand #B18.
