Today at f8, Facebook’s developer conference, Clear Channel Radio, the
leading media company in America with a greater reach than any other
radio or television outlet, announced an enhanced social music listening
experience on iHeartRadio that is integrated with Facebook, making it
easier for people to discover and share new music online with their
friends.
"The New iHeartRadio’s enhanced Facebook integration will deepen the
already strong ways we enable our users to connect around music
listening and to discover new songs, artists, and custom stations,” said
Bob Pittman, Chairman of Media and Entertainment Platforms for Clear
Channel Radio. "We are deeply committed to social integration, and now
iHeartRadio users on Facebook can express and share their music tastes
in real-time even more easily, making their digital radio experience
more personal and relevant.”
"iHeartRadio’s deeper integration with Facebook will help us keep users
connected to the music that is most relevant to them,” said John Hogan,
President and CEO of Clear Channel Radio. "It will serve as another
avenue to encourage music discovery, delivering great value to our
partners in the music industry, including artists, labels, marketers and
advertisers.”
Facebook News Feed Features iHeartRadio Music Listening in Real
Time; Sponsored Stories Deliver Highly Relevant iHeartRadio News and
Information
Beginning today, people who use iHeartRadio will be able to publish
their music listening to their Facebook profile. The new feature
will enable Facebook friends to see which artists, songs and stations,
including custom stations, people are listening to, and lead to greater
music discovery. Users’ activity will appear on an aggregated basis in
friends’ News Feeds and on listeners’ Facebook profiles. This
integration builds upon iHeartRadio’s existing profiles that show people
what songs their friends have recently listened to, as well as the songs
and artists they like. Listeners can continue to share songs and
stations by posting to Facebook and Twitter.
Clear Channel also will run Sponsored Stories to deliver highly relevant
and personalized information to people using iHeartRadio on Facebook
about new custom stations, interesting programming developments, music
news, and more. Clear Channel’s first Sponsored Story program will
promote Coldplay across the iHeartRadio platform, particularly
iHeartRadio’s Coldplay Radio station, which will feature tracks from the
band’s new album, Mylo Xyloto, in stores October 24.
In accordance with iHeartRadio’s strict policy regarding user privacy,
listeners will have control over how their iHeartRadio activity is
shared on Facebook.
With 50 million listening hours a month and 34 million downloads of
iHeartRadio mobile apps, Clear Channel is already one of the most
popular digital music destinations. iHeartRadio is Clear Channel’s free,
industry-leading digital radio service that offers more than 800
broadcast radio and digital-only stations from 150 cities. The New
iHeartRadio, released in beta on September 12, features the ability to
create custom radio stations, delivering listeners everything they want
all in one fully integrated service. Clear Channel will release the
official New iHeartRadio on September 23 at the iHeartRadio Music
Festival in Las Vegas.
