At this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Comverse will
demonstrate the benefits of mashing-up location with many forms of
mobile messaging, including text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging
(MMS) and visual voicemail.
Location-Aware Messaging enables mobile users to share their location
with contacts for an enhanced communication experience. For example,
mobile users can receive a map of the real-time location of the person
sending them a voice, text or multimedia message. Or, the receiver of a
voicemail can find out the geographic whereabouts of the caller at the
time the message was left.
The demonstration has been created using map data from NAVTEQ, the
leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for
in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions.
"Merging advanced geographic digital information seamlessly with
Comverse messaging and visual voicemail adds value to mobile
communications,” said Daphna Steinmetz, Chief Innovation Officer at
Comverse, the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling
value-added messaging and content services, converged billing and active
customer management, and IP communications.
"This attractive service,” Steinmetz said, "may become a ‘must-have’ for
many mobile segments, such as business travelers and tourists, adding
insight and a deeper level of sharing to communication as we know it
today.”
Location-Aware Messaging takes advantage of the telecom network’s
existing infrastructure and software providing subscribers with helpful
information, such as map information that allows users to find places or
locate friends.
"As part of Comverse’s dedication to provide mobile users with
information leveraging their surroundings and preferences for an
intensified personal experience, we believe that location-sensitive
services based on a subscriber’s context of location, status and
behavior will become a mainstay of daily communications,” Steinmetz said.
Visitors to Mobile World Congress from Feb. 15 to 18 in Barcelona are
invited to see the demonstration and a wide range of Comverse products
and services at the Comverse booth, Hall 8 Booth B83. To schedule a
meeting with Comverse, visitors are encouraged to make an online
request.
