At ShoWest 2010 today, Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE:DLB) is showcasing
in booth 1605 at Bally’s Hotel its comprehensive set of digital cinema
solutions. On display is the Dolby® CP750, the Dolby Screen
Server (DSS200), Dolby’s Theatre Management System (TMS) with the latest
v.4.2 software upgrade, and Dolby 3D Digital Cinema solutions.
Dolby CP750
In less than a year the Dolby CP750 has reached 1,390 units shipped.
Continuing to underscore Dolby’s commitment to simplifying digital
cinema audio processing, the CP750 is designed to work with the latest
digital cinema environments. The CP750:
-
Seamlessly integrates with preshow servers, alternative content, and
digital cinema servers.
-
Has an easy-to-use interface and powerful setup/remote software, and
it can play back PCM digital audio; Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic®,
Dolby Pro Logic II, and Dolby Digital Surround EX™ streams; and analog
audio.
-
Can be monitored, controlled, and upgraded from one centralized
location via the Internet through a theatre’s network operations
center (NOC).
-
Can process hearing impaired and visually impaired tracks.
Dolby Screen Server, DSS200 and DSS200-3:
The DSS200 is the all-in-one platform to store, decode, and deliver
pristine movies to the digital cinema projector.
Dolby is also making available the new DSS200-3 with increased storage
capabilities.
Features and key capabilities of the DSS200 series include:
-
Storage: The new DSS200-3 can store up to twenty feature-length movies
with 3 TB of local storage, more than any other screen server on the
market. The base model DSS200 can store up to ten feature-length
movies with 1.5 TB of local storage.
-
Simplified Design: The unit slides out from the rack on rails and the
top lifts up for easy access to the hardware inside.
-
Removable Drive Bay: Easily accepts industry-standard content hard
drives.
-
A/V Outputs: Connects link-encrypted image data to the digital cinema
projector and audio data to the cinema's sound processor, such as a
Dolby CP750 or CP650, or a Dolby DMA8Plus Digital Media Adapter paired
with another Dolby sound processor model.
-
Dolby TMS Software: Provides a complete, easy-to-use interface for
building, scheduling, and monitoring shows locally or remotely.
The Dolby Digital Cinema system software, v.4.2 is expected to be
available during the second calendar quarter of this year. New features
include:
-
Advanced general purpose I/O relays for low-cost automation of theatre
assets like lights, curtains, and pre-show systems.
-
Automatic RAID rebuild for the DSS200, which automatically restores
storage redundancy after swapping a drive, even while playing back.
-
Improved UI and system alerts for increased ease-of-use, making common
operations like clearing out old content and monitoring RAID rebuilds
more simple.
Dolby 3D Digital Cinema
Emphasizing its commitment to digital cinema interoperability, Dolby has
eliminated its Dolby 3D color correction licensing fee. Dolby 3D Digital
Cinema is compatible with leading digital cinema servers from Doremi,
Qube™, XDC among others. Dolby 3D offers:
-
A flexible, premium 3D solution that supports both 2D and 3D playback
without the need for a dedicated 3D auditorium and does not require a
silver screen.
-
Uniform light distribution to deliver an exceptional viewing
experience for both 2D and 3D content.
-
A unique color-filtering technology for realistic color reproductions
and crystal-clear images.
-
Dolby 3D glasses that can be reused repeatedly, providing a compelling
financial model as well as an environmentally friendly 3D solution
-
In addition, the Dolby 3D for large screens solution is now available
through all the major projector manufacturers including Barco,
Christie, Cinemecannica, Kinoton®, and NEC®.
