LexisNexis Risk Solutions today announced that the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) has certified CPScreen, a LexisNexis Screening
Solutions product, as a qualified anti-terrorism technology. LexisNexis
is one of the first employment screening companies to receive this
designation. Awarded under the "Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering
Effective Technology Act” (SAFETY Act), this designation validates that
CPScreen is an effective and reliable anti-terrorism technology, and
provides liability protection to CPScreen customers related to acts of
terrorism.
Safe and effective employment screening is critical for all industries,
but especially for those known to be targets of terrorism, such as
petrochemical, energy and transportation. CPScreen is one of only a few
technologies awarded SAFETY Act certification and able to meet the
rigorous standards established by DHS. Receiving this designation not
only provides liability protection for CPScreen customers, it also
reinforces LexisNexis’ commitment to security and best of breed
technology.
Jonny Bennett, executive director, Tennessee Valley Training Center
says, "It is wonderful to work with a partner like LexisNexis, that has
the foresight to see where the background screening requirements are
headed and to provide products and customer service to meet both current
and future standards. LexisNexis has been instrumental in guiding us to
where we are today.”
Scott Hudson, vice president of Screening Solutions at LexisNexis Risk
Solutions said, "We are thrilled to receive validation from DHS that
CPScreen is effective and qualified to protect employees, workplaces and
the community at large from the threat of terrorism. Fortune 500
companies around the globe depend on our screening solutions to validate
candidates, current employees, tenants and vendors," said Hudson. "This
certification is one more benefit that we can offer our customers.”
Added Bob McCorquodale, CEO, Safety Council of Southwest Louisiana, "By
working with LexisNexis I know I am providing my members the best and
most cost effective services. The overall reputation of LexisNexis and
the outstanding service levels that I’ve received allow me to focus on
other issues because I know that the background screening products are
tested, reliable and, now, certified.”
The SAFETY Act was passed to encourage the development and deployment of
technologies that could significantly reduce the risks or effects of
terrorist events. The law limits liability exposure to companies using
such technologies in the event of a terrorist attack. To obtain SAFETY
Act certification, applicants must submit comprehensive information
regarding the safety, efficacy and deployment history of the technology.
DHS then determines whether the technology can help mitigate the risk
and effects of terrorist incidents, performs as intended and is safe for
use.
