The Humana Challenge PGA TOUR golf tournament will unveil the new
"Humana Military Outpost,” an upgraded and expanded hospitality
pavilion, during the Humana Challenge Thursday, Jan. 19 – Sunday, Jan.
22.
The tournament will offer free admission to all Active Duty Service
Members, including National Guard, Reserve, and their families with
valid military identification. Located between the first tee and ninth
green on the Palmer Private Course at PGA WEST, the Humana Military
Outpost will offer guests climate-controlled indoor seating, outdoor
patios overlooking the golf action and complimentary food and beverages.
The Humana Challenge is encouraging Southern California military
installations to organize groups to attend the tournament in the Humana
Military Outpost, and groups will be offered complimentary
transportation between their stations and PGA WEST on a first-come,
first-served basis.
The Humana Challenge PGA TOUR golf tournament is sponsored by Humana
Inc. and the William J. Clinton Foundation.
"We’re tremendously appreciative of our military personnel and the vital
role they play in protecting America’s freedom,” said Mike McCallister,
Humana’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "To honor their service
and as an expression of thanks, we’re offering the Humana Military
Outpost as their home base to relax and enjoy the Humana Challenge.”
Individuals and groups will be required to RSVP for access to the Humana
Military Outpost, and can do so by contacting Humana Challenge
Tournament Services Manager Amanda Croteau at (760) 346-8184 ext.269 or ACroteau@HumanaChallenge.com.
The 2012 Humana Challenge, the Coachella Valley’s annual PGA TOUR event
formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic, is Jan. 19-22 at the Palmer and
Nicklaus Private Courses at PGA WEST and at La Quinta Country Club.
As it has done for many years – honoring the selfless legacy of Bob
Hope, who devoted much of his life to entertaining the military
throughout the world – the tournament will also continue to offer free
grounds passes to all Active Duty Service Members and their families
with valid military identification.
"We hope that members of the military stationed at our nearby bases in
the Coachella Valley and throughout Southern California take advantage
of the Humana Military Outpost,” said Tournament Chairman Larry Thiel.
"By expanding our efforts to thank the military for all they do for our
country, we’re continuing the legacy of Bob Hope, whose passion for golf
and this tournament was exceeded only by his love of entertaining the
troops.”
The Humana Challenge features 144 PGA TOUR professionals and 144
amateurs, including celebrities. The first three rounds of the four-day
tournament will be played in a pro-am format, with the pro-am teams
consisting of two pros and two amateurs. Round four will feature pros
only. The tournament continues to honor and celebrate the legacy of Bob
Hope, and will award the inaugural Bob Hope Memorial Trophy to its
winner.
Tournament week is designed to bring the idea of "participatory
wellness” to life for people of all ages. It will feature a first-ever
national conference focused on health and well-being on Tuesday, Jan.
17, entitled Health Matters: Activating Wellness in Every Generation and
highlighted by a keynote address from President William J. Clinton.
During the past 52 years, the tournament has generated more than $50
million in donations to the Eisenhower Medical Center and charities
throughout the Coachella Valley.
The Humana Challenge also offers the latest tournament information,
contests and prizes through its new Facebook page – www.facebook.com/HumanaChallenge

About the William J. Clinton Foundation
Building on a lifetime of public service, President Bill Clinton
established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to
improve global health, strengthen economies, promote healthier
childhoods, and protect the environment by fostering partnerships among
governments, businesses, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and
private citizens to turn good intentions into measurable results. Since
2001 President Clinton’s vision and leadership have resulted in nearly 4
million people benefiting from lifesaving HIV/AIDS treatment; more than
13,000 U.S. schools building healthier learning environments; more than
26,000 micro-entrepreneurs, small business owners, and smallholder
farmers improving their livelihoods and communities; more than 3 million
meals to schoolchildren in Colombia; and more than 2.2 million tons of
greenhouse gases cut or abated in some of the world’s largest cities.
And President Clinton has redefined the way we think about giving and
philanthropy through his Clinton Global Initiative, whose members have
made more than 2,100 commitments that have already improved the lives of
nearly 400 million people in more than 180 countries.
