LexisNexis, a leading global provider of content-enabled workflow
solutions, today revealed a significant update to the LexisNexis®
Academic service. The enhanced interface now provides simpler and faster
access to content.
Updates include transformation of the Easy Search™ form to widget-based
interface, simplified navigation, and the addition of several new forms
for specific subject areas including news, business, legal and more.
Following favorable reaction to beta testing by a large number of
subscribing institutions during the fall academic semester, the enhanced
LexisNexis Academic is now available to all users.
"For this particular release we worked closely with our academic
advisory board and held numerous focus groups with librarians,” said
Laura Salmon, vice president of Library Research Solutions at
LexisNexis. "Their initial feedback was crucial in our decision to
redesign the interface to our flagship product, and we are glad that we
were able to provide them with the functionality that they need.”
"This interface came about through an iterative design process with
multiple rounds of formal usability testing with students, as well as
focus groups and a beta release period that produced lots of great
feedback from the academic librarian community,” added Alistair
Morrison, product manager for LexisNexis Academic. "We expect the
enhancements will make a big difference to the user experience and
improve access to valuable content that has been under-used in the past.”
The completely redesigned Easy Search form is organized into six widgets
that provide quick access to the most commonly used content and help
students understand at-a-glance the resources that are included in the
database. The site navigation has been simplified so that all options
are presented in a single menu on the left of the screen. Most search
forms have been transformed to make them easier to use. New search forms
were also added including specialized "News” search forms, simple
search/browse forms for Federal and State statutory law, and a "Landmark
Cases” form that provides direct links to one hundred topically arranged
Supreme Court cases selected by LexisNexis editorial staff for their
importance.

American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Boston, MA or visit http://wiki.lexisnexis.com/academic
