Mindspeed System-on-Chip (SoC) Processors Drive New Capabilities for the Connected Home at CES 2012

Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced it will be showing a wide range of multi-core packet processors for high-speed wired and wireless broadband communications at the 2012 International CES trade show. Mindspeed returns to CES uniquely positioned to offer the industry’s broadest portfolio of pervasive connectivity solutions for next-generation platforms including broadband home routers, home gateways, Voice-over-IP (VoIP) appliances and small cell base stations for mobile broadband networks.

Mindspeed will be hosting private CES demonstrations by appointment this week for service providers, customers, press and analysts in meeting room MP25852 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 10-13, 2012.

Mindspeed’s high-speed wired demonstrations at CES will showcase the extensive capabilities of the company’s Comcerto® 1000 SoC embedded packet processors. The processors provide an ideal platform for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to deliver residential gateway devices that subscribers can use to receive leading-edge video, visual content and home automation services via tablets, advanced high-definition (HD) video monitors and smart home electronics systems throughout the connected home.

Mindspeed technology highlights at the CES will include:

• Smart Metering: Mindspeed's Comcerto 1000 SoC processor will be featured in a demonstration of Rockethome’s unique User Engagement Platform for interpreting, visualizing and controlling smart home and smart metering applications. CES attendees will see how users can link home appliances and multimedia equipment both inside the home and over the Internet, control and automate functions, and measure energy usage and efficiency in a single, holistic application.
• Video Transcoding-Enabled Broadband Gateway: Mindspeed will demonstrate how video transcoding in the residential gateway resolves the video format compatibility issues that have been plaguing consumers since the advent of digital video. Transcoding-enabled gateways also enable reliable video streaming over limited bandwidth or variable channels thereby greatly improving the subscriber’s experience.
• Remote User Interface for Advanced Home Gateways: Mindspeed will demonstrate how its Comcerto 1000 processor enables consumers to watch live or recorded video programming on any consumer electronics (CE) devices in any room. The processor will be shown in a home gateway running JetHead Development’s embedded RVU™ server framework software components on an RVU server featuring the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA)-based RVU™ client/server remote interface.
• Embedded Video-over-Wireless: Leading-edge Qualcomm Atheros Wi-Fi technology featuring a 3x3 MIMO radio operating in the 5GHz band has been integrated with Mindspeed's Comcerto 1000 processors. The combined solution takes a significant step forward in processing Voice- and Video-over-IP media streams in next-generation media gateways for the connected home.
• Small Cell Base Stations: The company will be demonstrating small cell base station solutions powered by its award-winning Transcede® SoC and highlighting 3G/High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) commercial femtocell products enabled by technology from Picochip Limited, which Mindspeed plans to acquire. Representatives from Picochip and Mindspeed will be on hand to discuss small cell base station development for 3G and long-term evolution (LTE) networks.
