MoneyGram International, Inc. (NYSE: MGI), a leading global money
transfer company, has launched an enhanced version of its fraud
prevention website – www.moneygram-preventfraud.com
– as part of its ongoing program to educate consumers on how to avoid
money transfer scams. The website features new interactive tools that
promote learning and engagement for consumers as they stay up-to-date on
potential money fraud scenarios.
As International Fraud Awareness Week takes place Nov. 8-14, MoneyGram
is encouraging consumers to visit the site and play the "Wire or Liar?”
game to test their knowledge of common wire scams. Other enhancements to
the website include a "fraud-o-meter” that provides real-time updates of
the amount of money lost to wire fraud scams in the U.S., as well as
examples of potentially fraudulent situations that consumers could
encounter at home or in the community.
The updated website is part of MoneyGram’s ongoing effort to help
consumers stay protected from wire fraud. As part of this campaign,
MoneyGram suggests that before initiating a money transfer, consumers
should:
-
Know – Always know the person to whom you are sending money.
Never send money to strangers.
-
Show – Never show or share information about your money
transfer to anyone but the recipient.
-
Throw – Discard or throw away any offers that promise easy ways
to earn money, especially if the offers require you to send money
before earning money.
Consumers who suspect fraud associated with money transfers should
contact their local law enforcement. Consumers should call 1-800-MONEYGRAM
(800-666-3947) if they believe MoneyGram was used to wire money as a
result of a scam.
