Monster and Military.com Kick-off a Series of Initiatives Designed to Better Match Employers with Transitioning Veterans

Monster Worldwide zu myNews hinzufügen Was ist das?

Monster Worldwide (NYSE: MWW), the world leader in connecting people to job opportunities, and Military.com, the nation’s largest military and veteran community, launched a series of initiatives this week meant to honor veterans in the workforce and to connect transitioning service members with meaningful employment opportunities. These initiatives are a part of the company’s ongoing commitment to and recognition of the value that veterans bring to the American workforce. Monster already provides employers with tools that help them attract veteran talent on a regular basis, including veteran friendly job postings, veteran power resume search tools and access to the Military Career Ad Network.

"As we draw operations to a close in Iraq, more and more service members are leaving the armed forces and entering our civilian workforce; this influx of new talent represents a tremendous opportunity for American business,” said Sal Iannuzzi, chairman, president, and CEO of Monster Worldwide. "By recognizing the strength veterans bring to the civilian workforce in areas like science, technology, leadership and management, companies can continue to be globally viable and competitive. The initiatives we’ve announced this week combined with the services we already offer, demonstrate our strong commitment to getting veterans back to work.”

Veterans Job Bank

This week, President Obama announced a series of actions as part of the Administration’s commitment to getting veterans back to work, providing additional resources for veterans to translate military experience to the private job market, giving veterans additional career development support and better identifying firms looking to hire veterans. Monster and Military.com will provide job opportunities for transitioning veterans as part of the Veterans Job Bank which was unveiled as part of the Obama Administration’s "Veteran Commitment.”

Veterans Talent Index Unveiled

Yesterday, Monster.com released the Veterans Talent Index (VTI), an innovative new tool to help connect veterans and employers more effectively. The VTI provides a snapshot of the skills veterans possess, identifies the attributes employers admire in veteran candidates, and gauges how well they are matching up at any given point in time. Released on a semi-annual basis, this tool will provide a more accurate picture of the veterans hiring landscape.

Chamber of Commerce "Hiring our Heroes”

Today, the Chamber of Commerce is hosting a "Hiring our Heroes” event with high-profile leaders including Michele Obama, Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army General Martin Dempsey and VA Secretary Eric Shinseki. During the event today in Washington, D.C., the Chamber will announce the establishment of a new Veteran Employment Advisory Committee, of which Monster is a founding member. The Chamber will also announce that they have selected Monster and Military.com to be their online partner, developing a co-branded website that veterans will be able to use before and after their career fairs to translate their military skills, prepare a solid resume, and to connect with mentors and employers.

Veterans Virtual Career Fair – November 14-18, 2011

In addition to this week’s veterans initiatives, Monster and Military.com are committed to veteran employment issues on an ongoing basis. Next week, the company will launch a virtual career fair to give veterans yet another tool to help get them back to work. This Veterans Virtual Career Fair kicks off on November 14 and is designed as an easy one-stop-shop to connect veteran seekers with the 30+ employers participating in the career fair who are looking to tap into veteran talent. The Hiring Our Heroes program and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association are partners in this effort.

"A Nation Thanks You” Facebook page, sponsored by Monster and Military.com

Military.com and Monster are pleased to support Facebook’s veterans initiatives including the "A Nation Thanks You” app that gives people the opportunity to thank active service members, veterans and their families for their service to our country. Military.com and Monster are also proud to be included as Career Resources, to help veterans and their families use technology to find jobs, within Facebook’s U.S. Military page.

In addition to these just announced veterans employment initiatives, Monster and Military.com share an ongoing commitment to veteran hiring needs, and already work with thousands of companies that recognize veterans’ unique talents and want to hire them.

  • Through our online Military Skills Translator (developed by Military.com), Monster helps veterans decode their military abilities into civilian equivalents and connect them to these employers.
  • Once veterans have translated their skills to civilian terms, they can then build a resume through Military.com’s Resume Builder that will match the format of other civilians applying for the same job. Because military resumes are often written in a unique style, they don’t always translate well to the civilian employers. The Resume Builder bridges that gap.
  • Military.com also offers a Veteran Career Network, a unique online networking tool that allows veterans to connect or reconnect with other veterans for the purpose of sharing information about job openings or getting guidance from a trusted advisor about launching a post-military career search.
  • Veterans don’t need to waste time looking for jobs in industries or companies that aren’t interested in or in need of their skill sets. The Veteran Job Search function cuts to the chase and puts veteran friendly jobs in one database that is easily accessible by the job-seeking veteran.
  • Monster and Military.com also provide a slew of resources for employers seeking veteran talent including veteran friendly job postings, veteran power resume search tools and a Military Career Ad Network; all of these tools can be found here: http://hiring.monster.com/recruitment-solutions/veterans.aspx

Please also visit the Monster Government Solutions blog and MonsterThinking to participate in ongoing discussions on both blogs where thought leaders will share best practices and insight into veteran employment issues, veteran skills translation and recruiting and networking tactics and approaches.
