Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ: ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today
announced that New York Downtown Hospital (New York Downtown) will
launch a major information technology (IT) initiative involving multiple
integrated components of the company’s Sunrise Enterprise™ suite of
solutions. The new applications will advance New York Downtown’s use of
enabling applications by creating a single electronic health record
(EHR) across venues to improve the quality, safety and continuity of
care. The initiative also sets the stage for the Lower Manhattan
hospital to meet the expected "meaningful use” requirements of the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
Expanded Use of Technology for a Single EHR from Emergency Room to
Bedside
New technology solutions include Sunrise Acute Care™, Eclipsys’
industry-leading computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system,
Sunrise Pharmacy™, its integrated pharmacy information system, along
with the company’s emergency care solution, Sunrise Emergency Care™. In
combination, these applications will create a single and unified view of
up-to-date patient information from the emergency room to bedside and
into the hospital pharmacy.
The CPOE solution will provide physicians with clinical decision support
resources at the point of care in the form of order sets and
evidence-based treatment guidelines. Moreover, the tight integration
between Eclipsys’ CPOE and pharmacy solutions sets the stage to help New
York Downtown in meeting what is expected to be the medication
management component of ARRA. Expected clinical benefits include
eliminating the need to manually transcribe medication orders, improved
care coordination between pharmacists and clinicians, enhanced
medication delivery time and improved accuracy of carrying out physician
orders—all which support improved patient outcomes.
"Living in close proximity to the diverse residential and business
communities of Lower Manhattan, our patients insist on the highest
levels of technological sophistication in their healthcare services,”
said Warren B. Licht, M.D., New York Downtown Hospital’s Chief Medical
Officer. "Our No. 1 strategy goal in this endeavor is to create an
integrated technology environment that will support improved quality and
effectiveness. In fact, we were reviewing technology options prior to
the passage of ARRA, but the promise of economic benefit has been an
impetus for us to move forward quickly. We selected Eclipsys because we
have enjoyed a positive working relationship, and as a company, it goes
unmatched in helping clients achieve deep adoption of technology. We
expect Eclipsys to fully support us in satisfying what we expect to be
the meaningful use requirements of ARRA.”
Industry Leadership in Physician Adoption
With a national spotlight on adoption of EHRs to improve the quality and
cost-containment of the U.S. healthcare system, New York Downtown has
chosen to partner with the company that leads the healthcare information
technology industry in physician adoption of and satisfaction with CPOE
technology. Eclipsys leads the industry in total physicians live on
CPOE, as well as the percentage of its client base using the system,
according to the KLAS CPOE Digest 2009: Meaningful Use and Physician
Adoption report. In addition, Eclipsys’ acute care EHR is ranked No. 2
in its category in the 2009 "Top 20 Best in KLAS Award: Software and
Professional Services” report. Eclipsys’ pharmacy solution is ranked No.
4 in the industry according to the same report.
"We are pleased New York Downtown Hospital has placed their confidence
in our proven track record of successfully supporting deep client
adoption of clinical software, which is critical to meeting the expected
meaningful use requirements of ARRA,” said Jay Deady, Eclipsys’
executive vice president of Client Solutions. "In addition to know-how
in supporting adoption, we offer clients a fully integrated clinical
system, embedded complex algorithms that transcend fundamental order
entry, and proven methodologies to support organizations in realizing
clinical performance goals. We look forward to working with New York
Downtown as they pursue their dual goals of creating an integrated care
environment and qualification for federal stimulus dollars.”
With more than 30 years of experience, Eclipsys has leveraged the input
of thousands of physicians for evidence-based order sets and frequently
used protocols to achieve unmatched, continuous evolution in its CPOE
capabilities. The intuitive, easy-to-adopt solution offers highly
complex clinical decision support capabilities that provide workflows
tailored to how physicians practice medicine and support automating even
the most complex order sets and medication ordering, including the
exacting protocols, long-range medication schedules and complicated
treatment plans commonplace in oncology and pediatric care environments.
New York Downtown also has opted to deploy Eclipsys’ Sunrise Record
Manager™ solution to free up valuable storage space, facilitate
comprehensive chart tracking and requests, chart completion, release of
information, electronic signature and medical record abstracting. In
addition, the hospital has renewed its services agreement with Eclipsys
to support it in major aspects of the IT project and ongoing system
maintenance.
