Phoenix Technologies Unveils Breakthrough Device Security Platform Innovations at Microsoft WinHEC 2005

    Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

    MILPITAS, Calif. & SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2005--

Company Introduces New Version of Its Flagship TrustedCore Firmware,
Announces Support for Microsoft's NAP Policy Enforcement Platform

At the Windows(R) Hardware Engineering Conference 2005 (WinHEC), today through April 27, Phoenix Technologies Ltd.(R) (NASDAQ:PTEC) will showcase its newest software development platform, enabling secure server, PC and embedded hardware systems development, and offering a value-add application suite for enterprise and consumer markets.
Phoenix is a Gold sponsor of WinHEC, an annual industry event for hardware engineers and designers focused on technology roadmaps and trends in the Microsoft computing environment. Attendees will get a first look at Phoenix's newest release of TrustedCore(R) Core System Software, its flagship firmware for the reliable, secure and flexible operation of embedded devices, servers, mobile wireless devices, and notebook and desktop computers.
TrustedCore software is the industry's first firmware solution that provides security functions compatible with all industry initiatives and Trusted Computing Group standards. TrustedCore provides industry-leading performance, multi-language support and design flexibility.
Phoenix also announced it will support the Microsoft Network Access Protection (NAP) platform with Phoenix TrustConnector(R) device authentication software, which provides industry-leading flexibility and ease-of-use for enterprise and service provider markets. TrustConnector enables the reliable identification of devices connected to networks, making devices trustworthy network end points and protecting networks against attacks. NAP is a policy enforcement platform being built into the Microsoft Windows operating system that will allow IT professionals to set policy -- for example, operating system and antivirus update policy -- which restricts clients from accessing a network until the clients can prove policy compliance.
Tim Lewis, Phoenix's chief technology officer, will explain the benefits of the new Phoenix software in a WinHEC technical session, and will discuss how Phoenix is working closely with Microsoft to bring greater security to users of Microsoft-based systems. During the conference, Phoenix will showcase its suite of solutions that can help original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) build powerful, secure computing devices using the latest Microsoft platforms and the x86 architecture. This includes support for advanced 64-bit designs that deliver superior performance and application flexibility. Phoenix will also provide an update on its work-in-progress to support "Longhorn," the codename for Microsoft's next version of Windows.
"Phoenix's expertise, software innovation and strong working relationship with Microsoft will help hardware developers usher in the next generation of platform software that will provide businesses with greater productivity and network security," said Michael D. Goldgof, senior vice president and general manager, corporate marketing and products division, Phoenix Technologies. "Phoenix built its reputation as the developer of the world's most reliable BIOS, and today we are extending our leadership into device authentication to deliver rock-solid and cost-effective solutions for this critical industry need."

    Product Demonstrations

In addition to TrustConnector and EFI, Phoenix will demonstrate the following products in its booth, #406:

-- Phoenix CoreArchitect, the only firmware development environment integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, with extensions for firmware code development, system analysis and accelerated deployment.

-- Phoenix Recover Pro 2004, an innovative recovery software application for mobile workers that includes built-in security protection for a PC user's critical data and applications. Recover Pro 2004 stores the backup of the PC system image on an area of the hard drive that is safe from the threat of viruses, worms and other forms of contamination.
