3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced that in partnership with
Communications Design & Management Pty Limited (CDM), it has won a
Standing Offer Arrangement (SOA) to supply enterprise switching
hardware, software and supporting services for the Queensland’s Public
Safety Network (PSN) initiative. The new network will provide secure
access at a lower cost for Queensland Police Service, Department of
Justice and Attorney-General and Queensland Corrective Services and is
part of an ongoing initiative to stabilise and future-proof its network.
This multi-year, multi-million dollar SOA, is amongst the largest for
the company in Australia and New Zealand. The SOA will see 3Com and CDM
provide an MPLS-based network infrastructure as well as associated
training, maintenance and services. 3Com will provide a single core
network under which cluster agencies will be able to access their own
systems securely and reliably – in real-time. As well as network
distribution, the SOA will include 3Com’s leading modular and edge
MPLS-enabled switches from H3C.
As the project progresses, these participating Queensland agencies will
benefit from the ability to access applications from any offices. The
deployment of 3Com’s H3C solutions will also help the PSN reduce capital
expenses and operating expenses in maintenance support for both its
Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) compared with
equivalent solutions on the market.
"3Com has a strong track record of government technology deployments in
the Asia Pacific region and we are pleased to have the opportunity to
work with the Public Safety Network to improve the government’s
operational efficiencies across the state of Queensland” said Angela
Hughes, 3Com Country Manager – Australia & New Zealand.
The converged solution, which forms the basis of the Public Safety
Network, will be supported by 3Com’s enterprise network switching
infrastructure, management software, as well as professional and
maintenance services provided by CDM.
The 3Com networking products to be deployed by the PSN will include:
-
H3C S7500E series – Core multi-service chassis based switching and
routing platform for Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) and Data
Centers (DCs) deployments
-
H3C S5500-EI series – Gigabit Enterprise aggregation and advanced edge
switch with resilient IRF® (Intelligent Resilient Framework) stacking
technology and 10Gig Ethernet uplink options.
-

edge access switching products
-
H3C S3100 series – Wire-speed, Layer 2 Ethernet edge switches
