The SWIGZ.COM Pro Racing team is set to compete in the 89th
Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (www.ppihc.com)
with its all-electric motorcycle powered by a UQM Technologies, Inc.
(NYSE Amex: UQM) high-performance electric propulsion system.
"We are looking forward to seeing Chip Yates and the SWIGZ.COM Pro
Racing team all-electric superbike kick-up some dirt at the Pikes Peak
International Hill Climb,” said Eric Ridenour, President and Chief
Executive Officer of UQM Technologies. "The SWIGZ.COM all-electric
superbike will showcase the exceptional torque delivery and performance
of our electric propulsion systems for thousands of race fans at this
classic racing venue.”
The SWIGZ.COM Pro Racing all-electric motorcycle will be ridden by
extreme electric vehicle designer and professional motorcycle racer,
Chip Yates, who designed the motorcycle and has modified it specifically
for this event.
"This has to be the most extreme racing spectacle in the United States,”
said Yates. "Fans literally line the edge of the closed public road
standing shoulder to shoulder just feet away from the racecars and
motorcycles flying by like at European rally events.”
At 240 horsepower, the SWIGZ electric motorcycle is the most powerful
motorcycle ever entered in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
During its global racing debut at the Auto Club Speedway in California
in the premier WERA Heavyweight Twins Superbike category, the SWIGZ
superbike racing team’s UQM powered all-electric superbike achieved a
number of firsts including:
-
Finishing an astonishing third place after starting the race on the
third row
-
Then finishing second in the WERA Heavyweight Twins Superstock
division of the race
-
Posting the fastest lap of the race at 1:39.792
-
Achieving a top speed of 158 mph during the race, despite having only
six laps of pre-race testing
"The bike is incredible and very well suited for an epic event like
Pikes Peak,” said Yates. "It turns well and makes 240 horsepower at sea
level and 240 horsepower at the 14,110 foot summit. I also have 400
ft-lbs of torque available the instant I open the throttle, which was a
huge benefit when I was exiting the 156 corners during practice.”
