Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (TOKYO:5802)(ISIN:JP3407400005) has
commenced sample shipments of Thunderbolt electrical cables. These
cables are scheduled to be marketed in October of this year.
Thunderbolt is a new high-speed PC connection technology developed by
Intel Corporation that provides for data rates of 10 Gbps and supports
both PCI Express and DisplayPort with its dual-protocol solution. This
technology is utilized in Thunderbolt cables that contain high-speed
signal processing circuits in their connectors. Working with technical
specifications for Thunderbolt technology provided by Intel, we have
succeeded in merging our advanced cable technology, with the high-speed
transmission technology to develop Thunderbolt electrical cables.
We have commenced sample shipments of the Thunderbolt electrical cables.
These cables are scheduled to be used for a demonstration at the Intel
Developer Forum (IDF) to be held from September 13 through 15, 2011.
Mr. Jason Ziller, who is director of Thunderbolt Planning and Marketing
at Intel, offers the following comments about the Thunderbolt cables
that we have developed.
"Thunderbolt is a revolutionary new high-speed interconnect technology
that will enable new usages and change how computers and peripheral
devices connect. We are excited to have Sumitomo cables in the market to
help expand the availability of this technology."
Sumitomo Electric has scheduled to market the cables from October 2011.
We will be providing the electrical cables to PC and peripheral device
manufacturers.
