The New York Times announces its Election 2012 App for iPhone and iPod
Touch, a one-stop resource for the most immediate political news as it
unfolds throughout the day, available now on the App Store. The first of
its kind, the app combines The Times’s world-class political coverage
with the top campaign news from around the Web, making it the essential
destination for anyone who wants to stay on top of political news.
Central to the app is a news feed that is constantly updated by a
dedicated editor to reflect The Times’s authoritative news judgment.
Stories are grouped by topic to provide a quick overview of the latest
news. Anchored by The Times’s leading political journalism, the feed
includes a curated selection of links to articles, blog posts, videos
and tweets from other sources to bring together the day’s must-reads. It
is personalized to highlight new content since the user’s last visit.
This innovative app builds on The Times’s renowned campaign coverage,
including The
Caucus blog and Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight,
as well as campaign-related columns, Op-Eds and editorials from the
Opinion section.
In addition, the Election 2012 App also houses the Election Guide, a
dynamic hub for campaign data compiled by The Times. The Election Guide
includes a database of the latest polls from The Times and
elsewhere; candidate profile pages with continuously updated
information including bios, campaign finance, poll results and tweets; state
profiles with reports that include demographic numbers, past primary
winners and delegate rules; a primary calendar; and live
election results on primary nights.
"Our goal is for the Election 2012 App to be THE destination for people
turning to their phones to stay on top of the most important campaign
stories of the moment,” said Fiona Spruill, editor, emerging platforms,
The New York Times. "There is a mountain of political news and
information out there. We’re trying to make it easier for people by
pairing The Times’s distinguished political coverage with a curated take
on the best stories from around the Web and the social media universe.
And in the process, we’re continuing The Times’s tradition of digital
innovation in our campaign coverage.”
