GAMCO Investors, Inc. (GAMCO) awarded the Graham & Dodd, Murray,
Greenwald Prize for Value Investing to William von Mueffling, Managing
Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Cantillon Capital Management LLC
during its twenty seventh annual client conference on Friday in New York.
GAMCO created the annual prize to honor an individual, student, or
practitioner who has made an outstanding contribution to enlarge the
field of value investing. Known as the "Gabelli Prize”, the company
funded the prize with $1 million and makes the award at its annual
client meetings.
Mr. von Mueffling is founder and chief executive officer of Cantillon,
where he manages over $1 billion in long-only assets. Prior to founding
Cantillon in 2003, he was a Managing Director for hedge funds at Lazard
Asset Management, where Mr. von Mueffling managed their European
Opportunities and Worldwide Opportunities hedge funds. Before joining
Lazard, he was with Deutsche Bank in Germany and France. He is currently
a Special Advisor at Industry Capital Management, LLC. Mr. von Mueffling
is a Member of Board of Overseers of Columbia Business School. He is
also a Trustee at French American Cultural Exchange. Mr. von Mueffling
received a B.A. and an M.B.A. from Columbia University and interned at
Gabelli & Company while earning his M.B.A.
Bruce C.N. Greenwald, who heads the Heilbrunn Graham & Dodd Research
Center at The Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and who
leads the Gabelli Prize selection committee said, "William’s
contribution as the Chair of the Executive Advisory Board of the
Heilbrunn Center has been immeasurable. His investment skills and his
consistent application of Graham & Dodd’s principals to the investment
process have enabled him to make countless contributions to the program.”
Joining Bruce Greenwald in accepting the award on behalf of Mr. Von
Mueffling was Tano Santos, the David L. and Elsie M. Dodd Professor of
Finance, faculty co-director, and head of research of the Heilbrunn
Center.
