Apple store after angry customers outside of Apple's Beijing store threw eggs at the building once they heard the China launch of the iPhone 4S was being canceled because of worries about the size of the crowd.
Apple proceeded to postpone all iPhone 4S sales in mainland China stores to avoid any safety risks for employees and customers. Apple said customers can still buy the phone online and through its local carrier, China Unicom. Other Apple stores outside of Beijing and Shanghai did open on Friday, and the phone reportedly sold out quickly.
Customers had begun gathering outside of the store where the incident took place the night before, with some estimating that the crowd grew to 2,000 overnight. About 350 people remained when the announcement was made Friday morning, since many left upon hearing rumors that the launch would be canceled.
