Capcom and Fox Mobile Entertainment’s portable
powerhouse, ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th
GRADER?™, made the mobile industry
stand-up and take notice in October when the title debuted as a
top-ten-seller on several major U.S. carriers including Verizon
Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Most notably ARE YOU SMARTER
THAN A 5th GRADER?™
climbed to the number two slot on Verizon Wireless displacing several
perennial best-sellers that have dominated the top of the mobile games’
sales charts for years. ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th
GRADER?™ airs Thursdays (8:00-9:00 PM
ET/PT) on FOX.
"I’m very proud of
the way we were able to quickly bring a high quality top-seller to
market. With our internal development assets, Capcom Interactive is able
to maintain a highly-maneuverable organization that can respond quickly
to licensing and partnership opportunities as they arise,” said
Midori Yuasa, President, Capcom Interactive, Inc. "While
the industry as a whole seems to have plateaued, it’s
clear that a strong brand and excellent execution can still generate
good returns in the mobile marketplace.”
The amazing performance of ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th
GRADER?™ is the latest in a series of
successes for Capcom Interactive, which has seen its sales grow by an
astounding 62% over the same year-ago quarter.
"Capcom has done an excellent job of
translating the ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th
GRADER?™ experience to the mobile
platform,” said Mitch Feinman, Fox Mobile
Entertainment Senior Vice President. "Clearly
fans of the franchise recognize this and have made 5th
Grader one of the top games on mobile.” ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th
GRADER?™ mobile incorporates all the
charm, humor and deceptively difficult questions of the wildly popular
FOX game show from Mark Burnett Productions in a portable format
optimized for the mobile experience. As in the show, the ARE YOU
SMARTER THAN A 5th GRADER?™
mobile game asks a series of questions ranging from subjects like U.S.
history, math and social studies. If a player performs well they can
work their way to the $1 million question(a); however if they falter they’re
forced to utter the unenviable phrase, "I am not
smarter than a 5th grader.” To aid the player
in their pursuit, simulated students provide "peek,” "copy” and "save”
assistance just as they do on the show. Additionally, sound effects from
the series complete the experience.
About ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5th
GRADER?™
Acclaimed comedian Jeff Foxworthy is at the head of the class as host of
this FOX hit game show, which measures adults’
lack of knowledge – as revealed by how much
they’ve forgotten since grammar school. This
fall, the show enrolled a new class of 5th
graders chosen from a nationwide search. On the show, adult contestants
find themselves revisiting their youth in a classroom setting, tackling
subjects they’ve already been taught - from
art to geography and math to social studies. When test questions derived
from actual textbooks used in the 1st through 5th grades prove to be too
challenging, contestants are not alone; there is a way to "cheat”
in this classroom. Adults can get some elementary help by "peeking”
or "copying” off
of or being "saved”
by their actual 5th graders to help them graduate toward the top prize
of $1 million.
