Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCO), today announced that
it has renewed its agreement with the Federal Bureau of Investigations
(FBI) to display "wanted” messages on all of its digital billboards
across the country. Since the agreement was formed one year ago, the
initiative has led to the successful apprehension of thirteen criminals
as a direct result of information displayed on Clear Channel Outdoor’s
digital billboard networks in Akron, Albuquerque, Cleveland, Dallas, Las
Vegas, Milwaukee, Northern New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Tampa Bay.
On Friday March 20th, 2009 Clear Channel Outdoor was awarded one of the
first nationally recognized Director’s Community Leadership Awards at
the FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. for their development and
ongoing support of the FBI’s wanted messaging program on their digital
outdoor networks.
"We’re impressed with how effective Clear Channel Outdoor’s digital
billboard networks have been in delivering security messages that have
led to the capture of dangerous fugitives,” said Brett Hovington, FBI
Community Relations Unit Chief. "The versatile technology allows
concerned citizens across the country to act immediately when they have
critical information for law enforcement.”
"The success of our partnership with the FBI in assisting the
apprehension of dangerous fugitives has far exceeded our expectations,"
said Paul Meyer, President and CEO, Clear Channel Outdoor for the
Americas. "The ability to provide the traveling public with current law
enforcement and other critical emergency messages within minutes after
the need arises and to update those messages just as quickly has been an
invaluable public service to the 27 communities where we operate our
digital billboard networks. We are dedicated to expanding this
initiative to every market in which we do business.”
With approximately 350 total displays, Clear Channel Outdoor's digital
billboard networks are being embraced rapidly by many municipal
governments as the technology affords transportation agencies, police
departments and other emergency services an extraordinarily effective
means of quickly reaching people away from their homes with important
public safety messages. Immediate notification of severe weather
conditions, highway closures due to traffic incidents, disaster
preparedness needs, and AMBER Alerts for missing or abducted children,
can all be delivered to tens of thousands of motorists in real time by
utilizing digital billboards.
