Cementing its lead in the HD Radio space, Clear Channel Radio today
announced that all of its 350 HD2 stations are iTunes Tagging
compatible, allowing songs played on Clear Channel Radio HD stations to
be added to an iPod when tagged by a tagging-capable receiver. With just
the push of the ‘tag’
button on Polk Audio and Alpine HD Radio receivers, songs can be
previewed, purchased, and downloaded.
"With radio now well established in the
digital age, innovation is a priority at Clear Channel Radio, which is
why we developed technology to make iTunes Tagging possible,”
said John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio. "With
700 of our HD stations now tagging-capable, and because of our
collaboration with iTunes, iPods can now continuously be refreshed with
new songs discovered on radio.”
A recent survey from sonoro audio found that radio was still the number
one way that consumers prefer to listen to music followed by iPods,
which highlights the natural relationship between Clear Channel Radio
and iTunes to provide more entertainment options for consumers.
Polk Audio’s I-Sonic Entertainment System 2
was the first receiver to market with iTunes Tagging and is available at
nearly 200 Apple stores across the country, select Best Buy stores, and
online. Additionally, Alpine has two aftermarket auto iTunes Tagging
devices: iDA-X100 Digital Media Receiver and IVA-W505 2-DIN Mobile Media
Station.
Just a sample of some of the popular HD2 stations programmed by Clear
Channel Radio where listeners can tag music include JokeJoke, Mother
Trucker, Club Phusion, Smooth Jazz, Slow Jams, Vegas Gold, Music Summit,
The Tejano Channel, NEW! Country and eRockster. The complete list of
Clear Channel Radio’s HD2 channels is

Clear Channel Radio announced in early April that it had made all of its
primary HD stations compatible with iTunes Tagging. HD Radio is growing
at a rapid pace and is now part of inventory at major retailers,
including Apple, Best Buy, BJs, Circuit City, RadioShack, Target, and
Wal-Mart. Automakers that are standing behind the technology include
Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Volvo, Toyota Scion, Mercedes, BMW, MINI USA,
Jaguar, and Hyundai.
