Computer Programs and Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CPSI), a leading provider
of healthcare information solutions, today announced its receipt of
certification from the Certification Commission for Healthcare
Information Technology (CCHIT(SM)) for its
inpatient electronic medical record (EMR) product. CPSI is now CCHIT
Certified(SM) for the CPSI System, Version 15,
for CCHIT Inpatient EMR 2007. CCHIT is the recognized certification
authority for electronic health records (EHRs). Its mission is to
accelerate the adoption of robust, interoperable healthcare information
technology throughout the United States by creating an efficient,
credible, sustainable mechanism for the certification of healthcare IT
products.
"Using information technology to improve
clinical outcomes has always been a priority for CPSI and our clients,”
said Boyd Douglas, president and chief executive officer of CPSI. "We
believe CCHIT certification is another opportunity to demonstrate our
leadership in providing advanced clinical solutions to community
hospitals.”
The CPSI System is a fully integrated health information system
providing a comprehensive EMR solution targeted specifically to
community healthcare providers. The system offers a complete array of
financial and clinical applications including revenue cycle management
and advanced clinical systems such as point of care documentation, a
web-based physician portal to the EMR, CPOE and PACS. The resulting
system provides CPSI clients with an EMR that virtually eliminates
reliance on paper records, increases patient safety and helps to improve
patient outcomes.
To achieve certification, the CPSI System was subjected to CCHIT’s
inspection process comprised of real-life medical scenarios designed to
test products rigorously against clinical documentation needs of
providers and the quality and safety needs of healthcare consumers and
payers. Certification by CCHIT designates that an EHR product has passed
inspection of 100% of CCHIT’s criteria for
functionality, interoperability and security.
"CPSI has been a proponent of EMR adoption for
our community hospital customers prior to the advent of CCHIT
Certification,” said Scott Schneider, senior
vice president of CPSI. "We have been the
leader in providing community hospitals with superior EMR solutions for
some time. In our opinion, achieving CCHIT certification in the initial
round of testing is a direct result of that long term commitment and an
indication of the highly developed state of our product.”
The CPSI System joins CPSI’s ambulatory EMR
product and Medical Practice EMR in receiving certification from CCHIT.
CPSI’s Medical Practice EMR, Version 14, is
currently CCHIT Certified(SM) for CCHIT
Ambulatory EMR 2006.
