DivX, Inc. (NASDAQ:DIVX) and Broadcom Corporation, a global leader in
semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced
the DivX® Certification of the Broadcom®
BCM7403 chip for set-top devices.
DivX offers a popular digital media format used by consumers all over
the world to create, share and play high-quality digital video across a
range of devices and platforms. DivX Certification of Broadcom’s
BCM7403 will enable set-top box manufacturers to offer their consumers
the ability to easily playback DivX videos from the PC or the Internet
directly on their televisions through these set-top devices.
Broadcom’s BCM7403 is a high-definition
solution offering integrated support for digital media formats such as
the DivX media format. Broadcom is focusing on enabling its customers to
add DivX support to consumer electronics devices, including set-top
boxes and high-definition devices. These product categories will expand
the current line-up of DivX Certified® device
categories, which includes DVD players, portable devices, digital still
cameras, and more, comprising over 100 million certified devices shipped
by DivX partners worldwide.
"There has been increasing demand from our
set-top-box customers to support the popular DivX format, and we’re
excited to collaborate with DivX to extend a high-quality digital
experience to consumers,” said Aidan O’Rourke,
Director of Marketing, IPTV Set-Top Box Products for Broadcom.
"This chip emphasizes the importance of
offering consumers a truly interoperable digital media experience across
all devices that playback video,” said Kevin
Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. "There is an enormous
amount of high-quality DivX content that consumers want to playback in
their living room, not just their PC, and we’re
excited to work with Broadcom to simplify the digital media experience
for consumers.”
Products that bear the DivX Certified logo have undergone a rigorous
testing program to ensure interoperability, security and visual quality.
DivX Certified products enable consumers to create, play, and share
