Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ:HLIT) today announced that M-net
Telekommunikations GmbH, a broadband telecommunications service provider
based in Munich, Germany, has deployed Harmonic’s HFC solutions for its
new Gigabit passive optical network (GPON). M-net’s new fiber to the
building/ home (FTTB/FTTH) service offers customers a high quality
digital/analog TV service in addition to high speed data connectivity.
The full range of Harmonic’s 1550 nm MAXLink™ optical transmitters and
amplifiers were deployed as part of the M-net RF overlay project.
"Harmonic’s optical transmission solution offers greater reliability,
performance and cost-effectiveness for our GPON architecture,” said
Norbert Erl, Head of Central Planning for M-net. "The high output levels
and multiple outputs available with the amplifiers in particular met our
network design criteria. Harmonic’s flexibility and reliability were
other favorable factors that led to our selection of Harmonic for the
HFC optical network piece of the new service deployment.”
Two Harmonic partners were instrumental in the M-net deployment. Quative
served as system integrator for the entire service deployment, and
Normann Engineering GmbH was key in the planning and installation of the
M-net optical transport network in Munich and other Bavarian cities.
"Our 1550 nm solutions are ideal for a variety of network architectures,
including GPON FTTH networks,” said Sunil Frida, Director of HFC
Solutions and Strategy for Harmonic Inc. "M-net’s selection of our
transmitters and amplifiers for this deployment underscores Harmonic’s
experience and strength in delivering high quality optical access
solutions gained over the past twenty years working with the world’s
leading cable service providers.”
Harmonic’s comprehensive portfolio of reliable and high performance HFC
transport solutions, deployed by cable operators around the world for
fiber-deep and FTTH architectures, includes a range of 1310 and 1550 nm
transmitters, amplifiers and nodes.
