Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that its Rhozet™
media transcoding technology has been selected as the core technology
for the new Adobe® Flash®
Media Encoding Server. Adobe selected Rhozet technology because of its
powerful transcoding capabilities and enterprise-class scalability,
which provide a remarkably fast platform for preparing video content for
the Adobe Flash Player runtime. The new Flash Media Encoding Server can
take advantage of multiple CPU cores within a single machine as well as
multiple machines in a network, resulting in the fastest transcoding
platform available for preparing content in the FLV format. Rhozet
technology accelerates encoding of F4V files using the new H.264 video
codec as well as FLV files using the older VP6 codec.
"With content created and delivered via the
Flash platform reaching hundreds of millions of desktops, handheld
devices and set-top boxes, Adobe is a leader in enabling the anytime,
anywhere viewing model,” said Patrick
Harshman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Harmonic Inc. "At
Harmonic, we are likewise focused on delivering a highly personalized
video experience. The selection of Rhozet to provide core transcoding
technology for Adobe underscores Rhozet’s
reputation in the market. It’s a true mark of
distinction to become a part of such a pervasive and compelling platform.”
"Adobe Flash technology has become the
standard for delivering high-quality, customized and seamless web video
experiences to millions of viewers worldwide,”
said Jim Guerard, Vice President and General Manager of Dynamic Media at
Adobe. "Harmonic’s
Rhozet team provided us with a superb solution for accelerated
transcoding at speeds faster than realtime, so we can help our customers
spend less time encoding FLV files, process more video with the same
hardware, and get time-sensitive, high-quality video quickly deployed on
the web.”
