Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (H-JAIA), the world’s
busiest airport by passenger traffic, has sent more than 1,000 alerts in
the past year using Cooper Notification’s patented Roam Secure Alert
Network™ (RSAN™). The system coordinates emergency efforts among 19
internal groups, including airport operations, security staff,
Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security,
and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Cooper Notification, a leading
provider of safety and mass notification solutions, is a platform of
Cooper Industries, Ltd. (NYSE:CBE).
Through the RSAN system, known as H-JAIA Alert, Hartsfield-Jackson
officials send text and voice alerts to communicate not only urgent
messages such as airfield emergencies, construction accidents, and
de-icing scheduling, but also non-emergency notifications, including the
taxi alert pilot program. H-JAIA Alert is also used for mock emergency
exercises as required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
"Since RSAN has helped us streamline emergency communications
internally, we’re looking at other ways to benefit from this multi-use
system, one of which is the H-JAIA taxi alert pilot program,” said Dan
Negris, Dispatch Center System Administrator. "With an increasing number
of taxis servicing the airport, we can communicate to drivers through
H-JAIA Alert that the taxi assembly area is full and how long the
estimated wait time is. This will help ease traffic congestion and save
gas.”
Alerts from H-JAIA Alert can be initiated by a PDA, cell phone, or
BlackBerry® and can be sent simultaneously to multiple communication
devices, including cell phones, pagers, and computers. In addition to
the taxi alert pilot program, other future multi-use scenarios may
include full parking lot notifications.
"The robust yet easy-to-use RSAN system will be an invaluable addition
to our new Centralized Command Center,” added Negris. "In addition to
speed and reliability, one of the major reasons why RSAN was chosen over
others was the ease of the remote activation feature. Not all
emergencies happen while sitting at your desk. This feature allows our
personnel to send both informational and emergency notifications
remotely, without the use of their desktop computer.”
"To create a safer and more secure environment for the public, RSAN’s
two-way communications allow airport personnel to reply to alerts such
as an AMBER Alert to help locate a missing child,” said Ratna Reddi,
Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Cooper
Notification. "In an emergency, effective coordination among key
personnel is critical when every second counts.”
