Healthvision®, a leading healthcare
information technology (HIT) solutions provider, today announced that it
has received a strategic investment from VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRSN),
the leading provider of digital infrastructure for the networked world.
As part of the agreement, both companies will work to integrate current
VeriSign technologies into the current Healthvision solution suite, and
to work together on the development of the next generation of healthcare
information infrastructure solutions. The company also announced that
VeriSign executive Matt Niehaus will join Healthvision’s
board of directors.
"Healthvision is focused on connecting
healthcare communities by building health information exchanges among
providers, hospitals, labs and patients,”
commented Scott Decker, president and CEO of Healthvision. "By
leveraging VeriSign’s resources and proven
global digital infrastructure, Healthvision’s
Health Information Exchange (HIE) platform will bring unmatched data
exchange and communication capabilities to Connected Healthcare
Communities.”
According to Eric Brown, vice president of Forrester’s
healthcare practice, "The United States
healthcare sector is embarking on a massive effort to implement
connectivity among doctors, hospitals, labs, pharmacies and other
healthcare institutions to give healthcare providers a complete view of
a patient's medical information. The goal is to improve the quality of
care, avert medical errors, and save billions of dollars eliminating
redundant diagnostic procedures, preventable health complications,
delays waiting for paper charts, and other inefficiencies in the
healthcare system.1” "It is clear that the healthcare industry has
escalating needs around secure, scalable information exchange,”
said Matt Niehaus, Health and Life Sciences Lead, VeriSign. "We‘re
excited to be working with Healthvision to deliver current VeriSign
solutions to this market, and we believe our investment in Healthvision
will be a force multiplier enabling the creation of the next-generation
of healthcare information infrastructure.”
The agreement establishes joint sales opportunities whereby Healthvision
will support the adoption of current VeriSign services into the
healthcare market. VeriSign and Healthvision will also explore future
joint development projects based on both companies’
technologies and capabilities to yield a complete solution for
healthcare communities offering secure, real time and industry compliant
communications and information exchange among all stakeholder groups.
Healthvision will be exhibiting at the Healthcare Information and
Management Systems Society (HIMSS: www.himss.org)
annual conference, February 25-March 1, 2007 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Conference attendees can visit booth 2917 to learn more about
