In response to Washington mountain pass closures, Horizon Air is
expanding its special $119 one-way fares to include flights between
Seattle and Eastern Washington through this Saturday.
Yesterday, Horizon announced this special fare for flights between
Seattle and Portland when parts of Interstate 5 were closed due to
floods in Southwest Washington.
"This region is our backyard, and these are our communities. We want to
extend a helping hand to folks by offering this special fare to these
affected cities,” said Dan Russo, Horizon’s vice president of marketing
and communications. "We’ve had a tremendous response to our special fare
between Portland and Seattle, and with today’s closure of mountain
passes in Washington, it felt only right to offer this to those
traveling between eastern and western cities in the state as well.”
From Seattle, Horizon serves Lewiston/Clarkston, Pasco/Tri-Cities,
Pullman, Spokane, Walla Walla, Wenatchee and Yakima. Alaska Airlines
flights between Seattle and Spokane will also be eligible for the
special fare.
Unless travelers are willing to take a major detour around I-5, flying
appears to be their only choice right now for getting between Seattle
and Portland, because the Amtrak rail line that links the two cities is
also closed due to the flooding.
Amtrak contacted Horizon this morning to ask for assistance in
transporting its passengers stranded in Portland. Horizon was able to
help by adding two more flights from Portland to Seattle specifically
for the Amtrak passengers, in addition to the other flights it added to
meet the greater demand.
"We are very grateful for Horizon's flexibility and desire to help us
and our passengers," said Vernae Graham, Amtrak spokesperson. "We
understand it took some juggling and do deeply appreciate it."
Horizon’s $119 one-way fare is nonrefundable. It will be available for
booking by 7 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Jan. 8 for travel through Saturday,
Jan. 10. The fastest way to access this fare is by visiting
horizonair.com. Alternatively, travelers may call Horizon Air
Reservations at 1-800-547-9308.
Horizon serves 47 cities throughout Arizona, California, Oregon,
Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Baja California Sur (Mexico), and
British Columbia and Alberta (Canada). Together, Horizon Air and Alaska
Airlines serve more than 90 cities and are subsidiaries of Alaska Air
Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK).
