Implant Sciences Corporation (AMEX: IMX) a leading manufacturer
of advanced security products for the Security, Safety and Defense
(SS&D) market, including explosives detection technology, today
announced it plans to expand its Asia-Pacific presence. John Zhang,
Ph.D., recently joined the Company as Director, Business Development,
Asia-Pacific Region, reporting to Richard Meyerhoff, VP Worldwide Sales
and Service. Dr. Zhang will strengthen the links between the Company and
key distributors in the Chinese markets such as Beijing Ritchie and
Beijing Fulong, two distributors who have built the largest installed
base of the Company’s products in the world.
Additionally, he will lead distributor recruitment and support efforts
for the growing installed base of the Company’s
handheld and benchtop explosives detection equipment throughout other
parts of the Asia-Pacific region, including such nations as Japan,
Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and other locations.
Dr. Zhang, who is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese, received his Ph.D. in
Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a
Masters degree in Electrical and Systems Engineering from the University
of Connecticut. Having over 24 years of experience in research and
development, systems engineering, software development, business
development, and distribution channel management in the Asia-Pacific
theatre represents a well rounded skill set for the wide range of sales
growth initiatives planned for the region.
Richard Meyerhoff commented, "China has been
our most productive sales territory and we expect this trend to
continue. Through the efforts of our leading distributors there, we
continue to receive multiple unit orders and anticipate fulfilling the
majority of our current backlog to this region in the 3rd
quarter. We also believe the upcoming 2008 Olympics, to be held in
Beijing in August, could provide additional near term opportunities for
sales of our security products. The establishment of a local support
office in this region reaffirms our commitment to existing and new
customers there, along with the opportunity to expand our capabilities
in this important part of the world. We are fortunate to have retained
Dr. Zhang to head our business development efforts in the Asia-Pacific
territory. His background is well-suited to promote the sales of our
security products and the development of new strategic partnerships. We
continue to evaluate other international territories where the
distributor network could benefit by this type of direct support from
the Company.” About Implant Sciences
