Macrovision Solutions Corporation (NASDAQ:MVSN), a digital entertainment
technology leader, today demonstrated a new capability that brings the
seamless integration and delivery of digital content to
Internet-connected televisions through Macrovision’s consumer
electronics (CE) Interactive Program Guide (IPG).
The capability was demonstrated today at a Macrovision suite during the
2009 International Consumer Electronics Show using content provided by
CBS. CBS and Macrovision share a similar vision of making it easy for
viewers to find and access their favorite television shows and other
entertainment from their TV.
In the demonstration, select CBS content including episodes from its
top-rated drama, CSI, was accessed directly from Macrovision’s CE IPG.
58 million CE devices around the world are enabled with Macrovision’s CE
IPG for on-screen program listings. The functionality is now being
expanded to help Internet-connected television users navigate, discover
and select Web content — whenever they want it — with just the click of
their television remote controls.
Now, more than ever, consumers have access to a nearly infinite source
of digital media content via the Internet. There is strong appeal for
consumers to bring this content into the home through a wider variety of
devices besides the PC. This will ultimately allow consumers to choose
what content they want and when they want it—through one source, such as
the television.
According to ABI Research, a market research firm, the number of
Internet-connected digital TVs, game consoles and set top boxes will
exceed 200 million by 2013.
"The trend of consumers watching television programming in many
different ways at their own leisure continues,” said Corey Ferengul, EVP
of Marketing for Macrovision. "Imagine missing your favorite television
program yet having the flexibility to immediately access it on your
television screen with your remote control. We are committed to
continuing to partner with content providers to enhance the overall home
entertainment experience.”
Macrovision previously announced a relationship with content provider,
CinemaNow, to bring downloaded movies to the television.
Macrovision’s Internet-connected TV interface is powered by rich media,
data and metadata that Macrovision provides for music, games, movies and
television programming.
In addition to the Internet-connected television capability
demonstration, Macrovision also unveiled its newest interactive
programming guide product, developed under the project name Neon, which
allows next-generation systems to recognize, access and play consumers’
digital media libraries, regardless of original source or location,
through smart TV sets at the center of the digital home.
