The NFC Foundation, a Nash Finch Company (Nasdaq: NAFC) charitable
organization, today announced 2008 donations totaling more than $490,000
to deserving organizations. This represents a 28% increase in donations
compared to 2007, previously the NFC Foundation’s largest year of
giving. The NFC Foundation provides funding to selected nonprofits
within Nash Finch’s geographic operating areas that address need in one
or more of the following focus areas – literacy & learning, hunger,
shelter & safety, and health & nutrition.
Some of the organizations receiving NFC Foundation donations include:
-
Loaves and Fishes (Hunger) – feeds approximately 1,500 people a
hot evening meal in one of eight dining sites. The NFC Foundation
donation of $25,000 helps Loaves and Fishes continue providing hunger
relief in the Twin Cities.
-
Special Olympics Minnesota (Health & Nutrition) – offers
opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to take part
in athletic training and physical competition. A donation of $12,000
assists Special Olympics Minnesota in their efforts to provide
exciting opportunities to these athletes and their families.
-
World Vision Storehouse (Literacy & Learning) – provides
teachers in St. Paul and Minneapolis with supplies, books, and other
learning tools for children who attend schools located in low-income
neighborhoods. The NFC Foundation donation of $10,000 supports these
critical efforts in helping provide classroom essentials.
-
Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery (Shelter & Safety) –
works in partnership with parents in crisis and the community to
strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect. The NFC
donation of $10,000 helps the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery
continue these vital services strengthening families and children.
-
Fisher House Foundation (Literacy & Learning/Hunger) –
provides a number of programs that support military personnel and
their families. The $10,000 donation to the Fisher House Foundation
will be used in the Scholarships for Military Children program whereby
scholarships are awarded through DeCA commissaries, as well for a
program assisting military personnel and their families with food and
other supplies during a time of medical need.
-
Food Banks (Hunger) – The NFC Foundation made donations
totaling $75,573 to a variety of food banks in the many markets in
which the company operates distribution centers in the Midwest, Great
Lakes and Southeastern United States.
"In these difficult and challenging economic times, it is more important
than ever to step forward and help,” stated Brian Numainville, Chair of
the NFC Foundation. "We are very thankful to be able to provide an
