PCTEL, Inc. (NASDAQ:PCTI), a leader in propagation and optimization
solutions for the wireless industry, announced today the introduction of
a wideband WiMAX basestation antenna with next generation integrated
Variable Electrical Tilt (iVET™) technology. This 802.16 WiMAX antenna
includes patent pending high performance, flexible and cost effective
remote electrical tilt capability. The antenna covers the 2.3-2.7GHz
frequency band and provides null fill capability for optimized coverage.
The next generation remote electrical tilt mechanism is implemented
through a distributed localized phase shifter. This design eliminates
the use of RF cables inside the phase shifter assembly. This innovation
improves manufacturability and eliminates electrical performance
variations associated with the cables, soldering, and terminations. The
new modular phase shifter adapts to a wide range of applications
including Cellular, PCS and UMTS antennas. In addition to adjusting
tilt, the iVET technology also adjusts for azimuth in multi-column array
antennas. This capability provides operators cost-effective flexibility
to optimize system performance. The antenna radome completely encloses
the iVET mechanism.
"Our new iVET technology provides a high level of tilt accuracy,
reliability and ease of deployment without any requirement for zoning
deviations typically seen with 'bolt on' solutions. It simplifies
network optimization, removing or eliminating site access logistics
required for antenna adjustments,” said Jeff Miller, PCTEL’s Vice
President and General Manager of its Antenna Products Group. "PCTEL
continues to develop innovative, high performance and cost effective
antenna solutions for the wireless industry.”
PCTEL will be demonstrating its WiMAX base station antennas as well as
its portfolio of GPS, Mobile and infrastructure antenna solutions at the
at the GSMA Mobile World Congress show, booth # 2D14, February 16-19,
2009 in Barcelona, Spain.
