PCTEL, Inc. (NASDAQ:PCTI), a leader in propagation and optimization
solutions for the wireless industry, announced today that it has served
Wider Networks, LLC with the lawsuit previously filed with the United
States District Court for the District of Maryland (Greenbelt Division).
The lawsuit claims that Wider Networks willfully infringed the
technology underlying PCTEL’s CLARIFY® interference
management system and aspects of its industry-leading scanning
receivers. The lawsuit points out that Wider Networks refused to license
the technology, made false claims regarding product performance, and
engaged in unfair competition and false and fraudulent advertising. The
lawsuit also charges that Wider Networks made inconsistent and
misleading representations to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
"Investors may recall that PCTEL aggressively asserted its modem
technology, generating $55 million from its licensing programs between
2002 and 2007,” said Marty Singer, PCTEL’s Chairman and CEO. "While that
part of our business is behind us, we have valuable technology supported
by well-established patents, that took millions of dollars to invent and
translate into commercial products. We have no intention of allowing
others to unlawfully use our technology and deny our shareholders of
their well-deserved returns,” added Singer.
PCTEL RF Solutions Group provides network engineers with the tools to
successfully plan and optimize their networks and reduce drive-testing
time. The CLARIFY® Interference Management solution sets the
wireless test and measurement industry standard for propagation
measurement and interference management in cellular networks, utilizing
sophisticated signal-processing algorithms. PCTEL’s CLARIFY® system
leverages elements of PCTEL’s industry-leading EX and LX scanning
receiver technology.
