Priceline.com (Nasdaq: PCLN) today released its 5th annual
list of top destinations for ringing in the New Year. For the 4th
consecutive year, Las Vegas is once again the #1 destination for New
Year’s revelers.
To compile its list, priceline.com looked at a sampling of more than
30,000 Name Your Own Price® hotel room booking requests made by
priceline.com customers for the New Year’s holiday. Because the survey
is based on actual booking requests, and not on consumer preference
polls or votes, priceline.com believes its annual survey is one of the
more accurate predictors of New Year’s travel trends. Also, by focusing
on hotels instead of airline tickets, the priceline.com survey is able
to include the travel intentions of consumers who will drive to their
destination.
Priceline.com’s 2008 New Year’s party spot list contains some perennial
favorites and a few surprises. "Drive-able big city destinations like
New York and Chicago are popular this year and probably reflect what’s
going on with the economy,” said priceline.com travel expert Brian Ek,
who creates the Top 50 lists. "Destinations that offer family-friendly
First Night events, fireworks and parades, like Philadelphia and
Orlando, are also popular. The surprise is the number of exotic and more
expensive fly-in destinations that made this year’s list, such as
Sydney, Paris, Aruba and Hawaii.”
Priceline.com www.priceline.com
said it still has hotel rooms, vacation packages, cruises, airline
tickets and rental cars available for those wishing to celebrate the New
Year in a special place. Several last-minute New Year’s deals are
available at priceline.com’s last-minute deals service www.priceline.com/pricebreakers.
In addition to its broad selection of published-price travel products,
priceline.com enables customers to save even more by using its Name
Your Own Price® services for airline tickets, hotel rooms and rental
cars.
