SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Shares of
Research In Motion Ltd. fell sharply Monday on media reports that Lenovo downplayed speculation that it was considering acquiring the beleaguered handset company. The speculation was sparked by a Bloomberg News report late last week that quoted Lenovo Chief Financial Officer Wong Wai Ming as saying the PC maker was considering a RIM acquisition. RIM shares jumped in reaction to the report. But in a statement to the Chinese media that was posted on the Next Web on Monday, Lenovo said that it does not comment on M&A rumors, and suggested that its finance chief was quoted out of context.
