Rohm and Haas Scientific Leaders Address Northwestern University at Prestigious Charles D. Hurd Lecture Series
Three senior leaders from Rohm and Haas Company (NYSE:ROH) –
all accomplished scientists – will present at
Northwestern University’s prestigious Charles
D. Hurd Lecture series on February 26-28. Cathie Markham, Catherine ("Katie”)
Hunt and Cheryl Martin will join an impressive list of past speakers
that includes company presidents, executive directors and senior
scientists from some of the top companies in the world. The series was
established in 1971 to educate students and faculty about industrial
research through direct interaction with distinguished scientists.
On Tuesday, February 26, "Electronic Materials
at Rohm and Haas: Fast-paced Innovation” will
be presented by Cathie Markham, Vice President, Technology for CMP
(chemical mechanical planarization) Technologies and Chief Technology
Officer of Rohm and Haas Electronic Materials. Markham is responsible
for chemical mechanical planarization product research, development,
scale-up and technical service, and the electronic materials portfolio.
She joined Rohm and Haas in 2002 with 20 years’
experience in the petrochemicals industry. Markham holds a B.S. in
engineering from MIT, and has authored multiple papers and patents.

in Tech LR 2, 2145 Sheridan Rd., Evanston campus.)
Catherine T. Hunt, PhD, Leader, Technology Partnerships at Rohm and
Haas, will address "The Future of Chemistry:
Education, Collaboration, Innovation!” on
Wednesday, February 27. She is immediate past-president of the American
Chemical Society, the largest scientific society in the world. At Rohm
and Haas, she is responsible for accelerating the pace of innovation in
the company by fostering collaboration with industry, academia, national
laboratories, government agencies and foundations. Hunt holds an A.B. in
chemistry from Smith College and a PhD in chemistry from the University
of California, Davis. (Hunt’s lecture will be
delivered at 4 pm in Tech LR 3, 2145 Sheridan Rd., Evanston campus.)
Presenting "The Chemical Industry in the
Global Marketplace” on Thursday, February 28,
is Cheryl A. Martin, PhD, Vice President and General Manager of Paint
and Coating Materials for Rohm and Haas in Europe. Since joining the
company in 1988 as a Senior Scientist for Plastics Additives, Martin’s
increasing responsibilities have included Quality Systems Manager,
Worldwide Market Manager for Specialty Coatings, Director of Investor
Relations and Director of Financial Planning. She holds an A.B. in
chemistry from College of the Holy Cross and a PhD in organic chemistry
from MIT. (Martin’s lecture will be delivered
at 11 am in Ryan Hall 4003, 2190 Campus Drive, Evanston campus.)
