TranSwitch® Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC), a leading provider of
semiconductor solutions for the converging voice, data and video
network, today announced the deployment of its Atlanta communications
processor in SK Broadband’s roll-out of its Broad&Fone Voice
over IP (VoIP) service throughout South Korea. SK Broadband (Formerly
Hanaro Telecom) is the fastest growing Broadband service provider in
South Korea, serving approximately four million broadband subscribers.
TranSwitch’s Atlanta 80M communications processor provides the core
functionality in the SK Telesys IF-100 Digital Enhanced Cordless
Telecommunications (DECT) phone, the primary vehicle for delivering
Broad&Fone service to residential, SoHo and small to medium-sized
business customers throughout South Korea. The IF-100 VoIP-DECT phone is
manufactured for SK-Telesys by INBRICS (formerly Navons).
Atlanta 80M System-on-Chip (SoC) was selected for SK Broadband because
of its ability to deliver high performance and a high level of
integration which results in the need for fewer external components and
thus a lower equipment cost. The architecture of TranSwitch’s Atlanta
SoC incorporates a dedicated digital signal processor ensuring that a
high data throughput can be sustained under real network conditions
without compromising voice quality.
"Our subscribers demand a VoIP-DECT phone with the best voice quality
and the highest data throughput with NAT enabled, and we provide it to
them in spades with the IF-100. TranSwitch’s integration of a high
performance RISC processor with hardware-based packet acceleration and a
DSP into an efficient, low-power SoC has enabled us to supply a
best-in-class VoIP-DECT phone at a competitive price-point,” said Mr.
Kim Han Su, Ph.D of SK Broadband.
Atlanta 80M is a member of the Atlanta communications processor family
that supports VoIP scalability from one to four low bit rate voice
channels from its on-chip DSP, wirespeed data throughput performance for
small packets by virtue of its fast path packet acceleration hardware,
and an integrated encryption engine. "We’re pleased to supply Atlanta
80M to SK Telesys for its new VoIP-DECT phone and to play a key role in
SK Broadband’s Broad&Fone VoIP service roll-out,” said Kris
Shankar, VP of Sales Marketing for TranSwitch Corporation. "Our Atlanta
communications processors are based on field proven technology and
designed specifically for demanding, high-volume field deployments such
as this. Our Atlanta processor family is a scalable set of solutions
that enable a wide range of innovative voice and data products such as
the IF-100”, he concluded.
