Source Interlink Companies (NASDAQ:SORC) today reported that its request
for a temporary restraining order in the anti-trust lawsuit filed by
Source was granted today by the United States District Court for the
Southern District of New York.
The Court’s order prohibits major magazine publishers and their national
distributors from denying shipments of magazines to Source’s magazine
distribution business, Source Interlink Distribution (SID). The request
for a temporary restraining order was considered on an expedited
schedule and sets the stage for a separate preliminary injunction
hearing scheduled for February 23, 2009. Source is also seeking
compensatory and punitive damages in the antitrust suit.
"We are pleased that the Court has granted our motion requiring the
publishers and national distributors to restore magazine shipments,”
said Greg Mays, Chairman and CEO of Source. "We and our loyal employees
continue to be committed to serving our retail partners and building our
business. We view today’s ruling as an important step in that direction.”
In addition to SID, which is the largest mainstream magazine wholesaler
in the US, Source also operates the largest distributor of CDs and DVDs,
the largest publisher of enthusiast magazines, the largest distributor
of magazines to bookstores and other specialty retailers, and the
largest importer of foreign magazine titles to US newsstands.
