SouthernLINC Wireless, a Southern Company (NYSE: SO), today announced
that, to date, it has added 12 new tower sites in its service area
during the fourth quarter. The new sites have enhanced wireless coverage
in or near Alexander City, Ala., Ashford/Dothan, Ala., Creola/Satsuma,
Ala., Huntsville, Ala., Marion Junction, Ala., Pine Hill, Ala.,
Tuscaloosa, Ala., Clermont, Ga., Helen, Ga., Millwood/Waycross, Ga.,

Additional tower sites in Coker, Ala., Dixons Mill, Ala., Wetumpka,

2008 or early January 2009.
"These new sites enhance cellular coverage in several rural areas of
Alabama and Georgia – locales that are often underserved by most of the
national wireless providers,” said Clay Brogdon, manager of radio
frequency engineering and construction for SouthernLINC Wireless.
During the week of Dec. 15, executives from SouthernLINC Wireless will
travel to the cities of Creola, Ala., Marion Junction, Ala., Pine Hill,
Ala., Millwood, Ga., and Uvalda, Ga., and host ribbon-cutting ceremonies
to officially celebrate these new tower sites. The company has invited
local officials from each area to attend the ribbon-cutting events.
"It’s rewarding to go to the areas where we have added new sites to meet
local officials and customers whose daily lives are positively impacted
by improved cellular coverage in their hometowns,” added Brogdon.
Using Motorola’s iDEN (integrated Digital Enhanced Network) technology
that offers immediate, private communications, SouthernLINC Wireless
effectively combines Push To Talk two-way radio, cellular service, text
messaging, and wireless Internet and data access in one, hand-held
device.
