SouthernLINC Wireless, a Southern Company (NYSE: SO), announced today
that it is returning as the official wireless sponsor of the Birmingham
Barons for the second consecutive year, and it is also supporting the
Mobile BayBears this season. The Barons are the Double-A affiliate of
the Chicago White Sox, whereas the BayBears are the Double-A affiliate
of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Both teams play in Minor League Baseball’s
Southern League.
"The Birmingham Barons’ mission is to provide fun and affordable family
entertainment in a clean and safe environment,” said Bill Adema,
director of sales for the Barons. "With a history dating back more than
120 years, the Barons rely on corporate sponsors like SouthernLINC
Wireless to help make this mission possible in the community.”
As part of the company’s sponsorship investment with the Barons, the
SouthernLINC Wireless logo is prominently displayed in Regions Park on
the 12-by-40 monster sign in right field and on the scoreboard.
Additionally, SouthernLINC Wireless is represented on the team’s Web
site, on giveaway items, in the game program and on the pocket schedule,
which is distributed to more than 350,000 people throughout the
Birmingham area.
"As a regional carrier with a local, hometown focus, SouthernLINC
Wireless understands the importance of supporting organizations in our
footprint,” said Julie Pigott, vice president of marketing and customer
support for SouthernLINC Wireless. "Continuing our support of the Barons
and forming a new relationship with the BayBears is proof of our
commitment to the cities of Birmingham and Mobile and the surrounding
communities.”
As part of its inaugural year backing the Mobile BayBears, SouthernLINC
Wireless is sponsoring the first Friday Night Fireworks of the season on
April 17. That evening, the BayBears play the Carolina Mudcats at Hank
Aaron Stadium starting at 7:05 p.m. The fireworks display follows the
conclusion of the game.
"Our fans look forward to Friday Night Fireworks, and we depend on
companies like SouthernLINC Wireless to help us continue this community
crowd-pleaser,” said Mike Callahan, assistant general manager of
corporate sales and entertainment for the BayBears.
In addition to sponsoring the April 17 fireworks display, SouthernLINC
Wireless has a presence on the BayBears’ outfield billboard in Hank
Aaron Stadium, on the marquee sign facing Interstate 65, on all game
radio broadcasts and in Baseball City magazine, which is distributed to
all game attendees and select businesses throughout the Mobile, Ala.,
area.
April 9 marked opening day throughout the league. In their opening
homestand versus the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Barons were 4-1. They
begin a five-game road series tonight against the Tennessee Smokies. The
BayBears also went 4 for 5 in their opening series at the Huntsville
Stars but were defeated 8-6 by the Mudcats in their home opener last
evening. The Barons currently lead the Southern League South with a 4-1
record. Last night’s loss puts the BayBears at 4-2 on the season and
half a game behind the Barons in the standings.
