SouthernLINC Wireless, a Southern Company (NYSE: SO), is the official
two-way wireless provider for two LPGA Tour events to be held in Alabama
this month. As part of the sponsorship agreement, the company will
provide wireless service and phones equipped with Push to Talk two-way
radio functionality to organizers of the Bell Micro LPGA Classic and
Navistar LPGA Classic.
"The best players in women’s
professional golf are preparing to compete on two fantastic courses here
in the Southeast,” said Bob Dawson, president
and chief executive officer, SouthernLINC Wireless. "SouthernLINC
Wireless is proud to be a part of these nationally spotlighted LPGA Tour
events that will be held in the communities of Mobile and Prattville,
Ala.”
The first event, the Bell
Micro LPGA Classic, will be held Sept. 8-14, 2008, in Mobile, Ala.,
on the Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf
Trail. Headlining the full field of golfers are rising star Natalie
Gulbis, 2008 Safeway Classic champion Cristie Kerr and Paula Creamer,
who is currently the highest-ranking American player on the Rolex Women’s
World Golf Rankings and the 2008 LPGA Official Money List. In November
2007, Creamer also won The Mitchell Company Tournament of Champions,
which was the last LPGA Tour event held at Magnolia Grove.
Often called a shotmaker’s layout, the
Crossings Course doubles across railroad tracks and includes several
hills. The course was named in Golf Digest’s "America’s
Top 50 Affordable Courses,” and is listed as
a Great Value course in "Fodor’s
Golf Digest Best Places to Play,” receiving a
four-star rating. Visit www.bellmicrolpgaclassic.com

Later this month, the second annual Navistar
LPGA Classic will be played Sept. 22-28, 2008, in Prattville, Ala.,
on the Senator Course at Capitol Hill also on the Robert Trent Jones
Golf Trail. The tournament will feature a strong and competitive field
of 144 players, including defending champion Maria Hjorth, last year’s
runner up Stacy Prammanasudh and LPGA Official Money List leader Lorena
Ochoa. In fact, 38 of the world's top 40 women golfers, including 10 of
the top 12 women on the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings, have
committed to play in the Navistar LPGA Classic. These players will be
navigating the Scottish-style layout of the Senator Course, containing
more than 150 pothole bunkers throughout the 18 holes.

In addition, the youngest player ever to have won the U.S. Women’s
Open, 19-year-old Inbee Park, is scheduled to play in both events. Park
currently ranks fifth on the LPGA Official Money List behind Ochoa,
Annika Sorenstam, Creamer and Yani Tseng.
Both LPGA Tour events will award purses of $1.4 million each and will be
televised on The Golf Channel. The final field of players will be named
prior to each event.
SouthernLINC Wireless employees and customers also have the opportunity
to participate in the pro-am events prior to the two tournaments. These
competitions will be held on the Wednesday of the respective tournament
week and will feature a four-person amateur team paired with one LPGA
Tour professional. Two SouthernLINC Wireless teams will compete in each
of the pro-am events.
Earlier this year, SouthernLINC Wireless also served as the official
two-way wireless provider for the South
Georgia Classic, a tournament on the PGA Tour’s
Nationwide Tour. The second annual event was held April 28-May 4 at the
Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga. Bryan DeCorso, a native of
Ontario, Canada, landed his first win on the Nationwide Tour, shooting a
final-round three-under 69.
