Sun's New Open Network Systems Rapidly Scale MySQL-Based Web Services to Millions of Users with Breakaway Savings

Sun Microsystems zu myNews hinzufügen Was ist das?

Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAVA) today announced it is bringing its Open Network Systems approach to Internet infrastructures to enable customers to run Internet applications with breakaway scale, speed, simplicity and savings. Combining Sun's Open Network Systems with the Sun GlassFish(TM) Portfolio and Sun's MySQL Enterprise(TM) Server, the #1 database for scale-out requirements, Sun's Open Network Systems approach gives customers faster MySQL(TM) and GlassFish performance, the fastest data-warehousing platform, the most scalable platforms for large-scale web buildout, and up to three times more density for storing rich media than the competition at 70% off the cost. Customers can try Sun's products at no cost for 60 days via Sun's Try and Buy program.

"Sun's Open Network Systems strategy for Internet infrastructure solves two of the biggest problems facing customers today – improving efficiency and scaling to meet rapidly changing Internet infrastructure to deploy new Web Services. Our innovative systems design integrates Sun Open Storage with networking and open source software to help customers increase application performance and achieve cost and energy savings,” said Lisa Sieker, vice president of marketing, Systems Group, Sun Microsystems. "Add MySQL to that combination and you've got a massively scalable platform to accommodate millions of users, cost-efficiently.”

Sun's new reference architecture, built using the Open Network Systems approach, helps customers more efficiently deploy and manage large-scale Web deployments for millions of users. It leverages Sun's Open Storage, next-generation enterprise Flash products, high-performance networking and servers to reduce storage costs by 75 percent and cabling requirements by almost 90 percent. The architecture comprises:

Sun also announced the addition of Flash solid state disks (SSDs) to the Sun Systems for MySQL Virtualization solution, which leverages Sun's chip multithreading (CMT) servers, Solaris Containers and Logical Domains (LDoms) to consolidate multiple MySQL deployments to fewer, more eco-efficient servers. The integration of Flash SSD technology with Sun's servers improves application performance by up to seven times for disk-bound applications, and up to 65 times faster response times with full SSD integration. Sun Systems for MySQL Performance Solution Breaks World Record with New Servers

The Sun Systems for MySQL Performance solution provides a complete solution for building and deploying MySQL-based web services on Sun's x86 blade and rackmount servers, including Sun's latest Flash-ready servers powered by the Intel Xeon processor 5500 series. Deploying Sun's Open Network Systems products, in combination with open source software, can lead to significant cost savings while delivering outstanding performance, as evidenced by the new world record open-source result of 2925.18 SPECjAppServer2004 JOPS@Standard posted by the Sun Fire(TM) X2270 running GlassFish V2.1 application server software. The Sun Fire X4170 server supported this benchmark at the database tier with MySQL 5.1. Both systems were running OpenSolaris, delivering eight times better price/performance at 1/10th the cost of competing solutions.

Sun Customers and ISVs Scale with Sun Systems and MySQL

Sun customers including Flexilis, Inc. and Last.fm are deploying Open Network Systems to help them scale their web infrastructure. To read about more customer deployments, please visit: http://www.sun.com/systems/solutions/mysql/perspectives.jsp

Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) are also showcasing improvement gains. Infobright, a leading open source data-warehousing vendor, demonstrated query performance increases of up to 92 percent for their Analytic Data Warehouse solution running on the Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System, compared to the same tests conducted with a competitive storage device. In addition, the Sun Storage 7210 Unified Storage System with an industry-leading streaming media platform can run up to 6000 concurrent streams.

Please visit the Sun Systems booth (#408) at the seventh annual MySQL Conference & Expo being held this week at the Santa Clara Convention Center. With more than 2,000 attendees, it is the world's largest community event for open source database developers, DBAs, vendors and corporate IT managers.
